Hi

Im having some issues

I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue

My slave axis = A

The A Axis after lying ideal doesnt move?

or judders etc

my connections and motors are all 100% checked again and again

im thinking now that the one x Power supply im using to drive the 4 x Nema 23 MOTORS Isnt enough and when the system is ideal, doesnt move the same as before

Im thinking the the PSU doesnt have enough Amps or voltage to help drive the 2 x axises at the same time?

I get it working and im all happy then come back 5 mins later and the A axis will not move

what do you guys think?

Power supply or dodgy driver board?

Known bugs in CY axis main and sub face milling code? Mastercam 2020

I just got some support from Postability and they resolved my post C index errors and polarity of posted code issues, but then in checking the work, I found this motion issue, which I don't believe to be a postability issue, because I also have seen this kind of stupid arc motion in my mill turn code. Mastercam makes the mill turn sim so odds are this is a Mastercam 2020 issue.

Does anyone know about this issue? I'd like to get my sims and posts right, and do more work for my company and less work trying to figure out how to get Mastercam to work correctly.

I've worked with the turning team at Mastercam a little bit. They have been aware of most of my issues. It seems like they don't really care if the CY subspindle or mill turn products work or not.

Suitable cutters for ply/ chipboard etc

Hi, I have a good quality solid CNC router mill. When I try to cut thick ply or cabinet board etc using a 2 flute endmill, the cutter gets terribly hot. For example at the moment, cutting pieces from 18mm thick ply sheeting - it cuts very easily but the cutter is smoking after a cut that takes a minute or so. I have tried various sized cutters and different stepdowns per cut. At the moment I'm using a 4mm endmill and 9mm depth per cut, feedrate around 3000mm/min and 16000rpm. It's throwing chips nicely, not creating much dust, and the cut is quite sharp and smooth.

Being a narrow deep slot it's hard for the heat to get out so I've tried vacuuming the dust out of the slot by hand during the cut (the main vacuum head isn't powerful enough to pull the dust up out of the slot). And now I'm using a jet of air from the compressor directed to the tip, to both blow out the chips and cool the cutter. But it's still hot enough to burn chips at the end of the cut.

The way I've normally dealt with this is to use smaller stepdowns and do a double width cut each stepdown, to create a wide slot. But this takes a lot more time. I can't understand how the cabinetmaker workshops do it - they seem to be able to cut through 16mm dense laminated board in one fast cut. What sort of cutters do they use?

Any tips greatly appreciated! Thanks,
Andrew vB

3018 Pro PWM speed control

$

I've recently bought a 3018 Pro, utilising a clone of the Cronos Maker board. I'm doing PCB milling / drilling and the supplied 775 DC motor is far too slow. I'm replacing the motor with a 3-phase motor capable of around 30 000RPM along with a speed controller. I want to take a PWM signal to generate a speed control signal for the speed controller, but the PWM signal on the 3 pin laser connector doesn't seem to be present. Do I need to set a configuration setting to enable the PWM signal?

Need Help! V30 Lathe

After creating toolpath for a feature and going back to edit some input and then reposting the software will change tool numbers. My 1999 Miltronics lathe will only recognize tool numbers 1 thru 24. I setup the Tool Library with tools 1 thru 22 as tools most commonly
used in the correct category and numbered all the other tools that I have as 23 or 24. I deleted ALL the tools and numbers that came with the software. Any ideas on how to avoid and or correct this.

Missing Project onto Model

I have version 12.0.17.0 of Gibbs and I cannot find Project Onto Model in the Solids section. I have "Project Geometry" but it does not give me the option to project a point, line, or contour.

I am trying to patch a hole using a Coons patch, but when I project the geometry using the "Project Geometry" tool it doesn't give me any options and the projection has rounded corners and the Coons patch will not work.

Any help appreciated. I have attached a screen shot of what I have in my plug in menu.

Thank You,
Steve

Homing and limit stop frustration

Hi folks.

I have a Fineline Automation Saturn 4x4 machine that uses all CNC Router Parts components. The machine itself seems fine, so let's not start an anti Fineline Automation thread. :-)

I have 3 axis --x,y,z. Nema 34 motors. CNC router parts plug n play ESS.
Windows 10 with CNCRP version Mach 4. 16 megs of ram.

So, envision a CNCRP 4x4 machine.
I am a complete newbie, so take pity on my lack of understanding.

Here are my problems:

  1. I can't seem to make Mach 4 understand the phyiscal dimensions of my workspace: 54" wide and 56" deep. Each time I try and home the machine by jogging the gantry, it always draws the homing position way out in front and over to the left. That's the correct position for home, but the Mach 4 suggests that the home location is way off the table and that is not the case.
  2. The limit switches: I can touch a piece of metal to them in turn and see them light up in Mach 4. However the window that shows the limit switches seems to show odd things. It shows the y- and y + fine. But only an X Home. No X right hand sensor when facing the machine. There is a ''slaved" limit sensor so I put that over on the x right hand side + I tried that and it lights up on the right hand side + of the x axis. The z sensor at the top of the z axis shows on the screen and lights when you touch metal to it.
  3. All axis pay no attention to any limit switches and slam into the rubber stops on all three axis. Sounds horrible.
  4. I know that you are supposed to set the pins etc and tried watching a few videos but nothing works. I tried this video to no avail:
  5. Soft limits don't seem to work either all axis--slam o matic into the rubber stops.

Question:

What I would like to do is simply jog the gantries around the table to each corner and tell Mach 4 this is the front left corner, back left, etc.

Is there a way for me to simply jog the axis to where I want to home to be and simply designate each of those coordinates as 0? I tried this, but when I press the home xyz axis it continues along until it hits the rubber stops.

I just lack the electronics know how. That's why I bought the CNCRP's Plug and Play ESS and their version of Mach 4. Sadly it is not working as I had hoped even with the their "easy" three step configuration.

I know this is radical but if I started over with WinCNC would it be easier to configure?

If anyone reading this lives on Vancouver Island,BC and would like to come to the Comox Valley, there is beer and pizza in it for you!

Thanks for reading. It's been a long day.

Hi Guys

Tried to power up my PCNC1100 today and got the following error, "Mesa Interface Error", "Firmware failed to update properly on Mesa Interface"

Last year I installed the Series 3 Motion Upgrade Kit P/N 32010 and a new Pathpilot Controller P/N 35286. Mill was checked out and everything worked correctly after upgrades.
Now after sitting for a while, Pathpilot will not boot up.

Any sugestions what I should look for?

My Mill is an early one #213 with the following upgrades:
(1) Spindle upgrade.
(2) Series 3 Motion upgrade.
(3) Control Board replacement.
(4) New Pathpilot Controller/Computer.
(5) Cooling Fan upgrade.

When I finished making my external Speed and Feed Override inputs to Mach 3, one of the inputs sits at 101% and so is continuously bringing up the 'Overriden' Warning.
I'm using 'centre detented' pots so not much I can do about that.

Anybody know if there is a way to desensitize Mach3 so it doesn't see any change until , say 5% either way?
Some sort of damping?

Hi there!
New Year is almost here ) where are you planning to meet it? Travelling to any warm country?

Create movement files

$

Hi
I am looking for some pointers or some help from someone who maybe just knows or someone that is interested in what I am trying to achieve. As part of a idea for my work, I want to be able to control a simulator by creating my own movement files and eventually ad hoc via joystick. Servo drives are not my background but I am keen to learn and needed somewhere to begin. The fasted way for me to get my hands on a machine was to buy a simulator from China. The simulator comes with 20 videos, a VR mask and a tablet. Within the VR mask there are short roller coaster videos, each containing a text file with coordinates on them. Here is an example of the coordinates.

6.841797,719.868164,0.397034,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
6.841797,719.868164,0.400116,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
6.841797,719.868164,0.403107,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000

The text file contains 100 lines per second of video. At first I though that I could watch the video and tie up the machine movements with the text file to gradually learn what it means and cut sections of the motion coordinates to create my own. It seems that the machine ignores this file...it has to be present but none of the changes affect the motions of the simulator when playing this video. I looked a bit deeper and found that there is a small motus controller that connects to the Estun 1010A servo drive via rj45 and I believe that these feeds CanOpen data into the servodrive. the names and number of text files I found on the motus controller sd card matches the videos on the VR masks internal storage.

I am guessing that the manufacturers have taken a video clip and using Sony Vegas created the above exampled movement file. After that they have converted it to an assci/hex file to feed into the servo drive via a motus controller. The machine input files don`t display correctly in notepad so I assume they are ASCII/Hex.

The text movement files found on the mask with the sony vegas extracted data contain 100 lines per 1 second of video, so I am sure that the conversion to a file type that can be fed into the Estun 1010A https://www.estuneurope.eu/wp-conten...cification.pdf will not have been created manually.

I have attached a movement file and a machine data file. Can anyway help me get started on creating my own machine files to ultimately create my own movements?

The machine has a seat that when sat in can go up and down and spin 360 in either direction. Just two servo drives are inside the machine. Here is a link to one of the same machines.

Thanks
Derek

Not getting any decent support from these people via emails, will try calling but suspect they won't be much help. If I had to do it again I would go with a different company.

1998 Milltronics MB20

I'm investigating CNC options and have been researching the Milltronics MB line of CNCs. The model I'm interested in is a 98' MB-20. From what I've researched these seem like decent machines. I don't have any first hand experience with Milltronics but was wondering if anyone has any input on the MB line? I"m looking to do a variety of activities in a prototype environment such as making molds for sand castings and machining engine parts. I have no expectations for making money on my endeavors anytime soon and as such my budget is modest. I'm looking to expand my personal manufacturing capabilities and get into CNC.

My list of questions to the group are:
  • For those of you that have had experience with these machines how would you classify your overall experience?
  • How is Milltronics customer support?
  • Are parts still available?
  • When inspecting these machines are there particular areas to look at? Quirky areas outside of what one might normal look at?
  • Are the electronics robust?
  • Any nuances with programming?

I appreciate any input!

Z axis goes up but not down intermittently

$
0

I'm having a real problem with my Z axis. It will travel up without issue, but intermittently will not move down. Here's what I've looked at so far:
1) connections - my molex connections appear solid but I have not checked inside the control box yet. Grounds are connected solidly including Z axis and Y gantry to a common ground point on the controller.
2) Mach3 motor tuning- when I lower acel and or velocity, it seems I have less problem. In fact, when I test only the Z axis (no other axis running) the problem still happens, but much less frequently. When I run a program with X, Y and Z axis in motion at even low acel/vel setting, the problem happens intermittently, but every time i.e. not at the same code location, and not in the same place each time, but each time I try to run, the Z axis fails to move down. Mach3 Z axis DRO shows the Z is moving down, but there is no corresponding movement at the Z axis.

My Z axis is a bit heavy- but moves smoothly and without any sign of mechanical issue. Because the issue is related to not moving DOWN, and up motion seems to be OK, I don't suspect mechanicial issues at this point. I upgraded the Z axis motor to handle the extra weight. I'll get specs on the motor soon.

What should I be checking? What information do you need to help? I use gecko drivers- I'll be looking at this today so I'll post info. I use a controller that runs on my PC parallel port. I use Windows XP, and the machine has NEVER been connected to the internet. Its dedicated to the CNC. I don't even do any design work on it.

I'm wondering if my Z axis motor or its driver has some intermittent issue, or the power supply is not quite adequate when all motors are running.

I'm at a loss right now- I look forward to any help here.
