6090 CNCest upgrade & VFD Question

First I want to thank all the people who have posted their knowledge and experiences with these machines. There is no way I would have got my machine running without you guys. As is normal, mine didn't come with any software, documentation, nor any support and the electronics are mostly crap, although I got lucky with the mechanics on mine, accurate and smooth.

I got mine running pretty well and did some small projects but when I decided to get my spoilboard in order I started to run into issues. When surfacing the spoilboard (1 inch winged cutter with a .900" step over) it could not get through the entire board without pausing then taking off again. Problem was mach3 would continue during the pause and it would lose position. The motors were not skipping steps it would just pause for 2-3 seconds then run again.

So I did some tests and it seemed to happen after ~13-15 minutes of cutting. So I thought maybe a overheating problem. Added fans and monitored temps... nope. So then I thought maybe the USB was doing something goofy so I insured that there were no interruptions in the USB stream. Still no dice. I spent a full 5 days testing and trying different things only to come to the realization that if I need a dependable machine I was going to have to upgrade the electronics.

I decided to go with ethernet and new drivers since I didn't have any problems at all with the original VFD.

I shopped around and once everything was considered (things like replacing the pirated mach3, etc.) I'm cheap so I decided to go for the new AXBB-e and UCCNC to drive 4 new StepperOnline DM 556's. This was cheaper then going with the smoothstepper and mach3/mach4. I also decided as long as I'm at it I might as well get a 36v power supply for the drivers and maybe get a little more speed out of it. I also had to pick up a small 3A 5V supply to supply the 5 volt side of the AXBB-e. I left the original 24V supply to take care of the 24V side of the AXBB-e.

Now the problem was the enclosure. Like I said, I'm cheap, so I decided since I couldn't fit all the new items into the existing (beige) box I'd just build a new enclosure out of plywood. I liked the cleaness of the box and the control layouts so I wanted to keep that part of it if I could. Scratched my head for a couple days and came up with a design that I thought would work while letting me keep as much of the existing hardware as possible and save some work to boot! Did I mention I'm lazy too? :)

The design I came up with just requires the bottom of the original enclosure to rotate 90 degrees down and adds some real estate to allow the new items. The nice thing about this approach is most all the cables and ribbon that attach to the front and back panels still reach without having to build all new cables (I had plenty of wiring to do already and didn't want to have to create new panel mounts etc... it's that lazy thing again).

The attached pictures hopfully show the whole idea behind my approach. There will be a filtered 24volt fan in the front cover towards the right blowing in with the existing fan in the top exiting hot air. I'll use a larger fan in the front hoping to get a little positive pressure to keep everything clean inside. The left side of the front cover will have a plexi window so I can check LEDs easily without having to remove the front panel.

I intend to do a youtube video once I get it running 100% and will post here at that time. I still have to do some cofiguration in UCCNC since my mach3 import didn't work. I think this is just as well though because I don't really trust that my mach3 setup from the BitSensor board would work anyway, might as well set up the UCCNC config from scratch to insure everything is correct. Pin setup for the BitSensor didn't seem to matter in Mach3 I believe all axis's were set up for port 0 and pin 0, don't even ask me how that even worked, just another one of those things I don't trust.

Sorry about the long post but I wanted to give the full background on this to set up my question.

I'm down to wiring up the VFD. It was working fine turning spindle on and off (once you turned it on manually once per session), and adjusting the speed. I'd like to have this functionality under UCCNC as well. I will initially run it manually to get everything set up but I'm hoping someone can help get it wired correct for UCCNC spindle control.

I've included a picture of the BitSensor card and the control bus of the VFD.

The way it was set up originally:
VFD --> Bitsensor card
10v --> 10v as far as I can tell this is 10 volts from the VFD to the 10v input on the bob (BitSensor)
AVI --> AVI this I assume is the variable 0-10v control signal
COM --> ACM this is the common gnd - on the bob the ACM was jumpered to the DCM (analog common to digital common)
FWD --> Out2 This is the control signal to start the spindle - as far as I can tell this is a 24v line.

Here's my issue and question.
Issue1: In order to connect it the way it was I would have to common the 5v gnd (the 5v is the common to the 0-10v AO1 pin) to the 24v gnd on the AXXB-e thus breaking isolation. I don't quite understand isolation so while I believe this would work, not sure if it's a good idea. Help?
Issue2: I guess I could wire up a relay for the spindle start but it seems like I would need another 24v supply to keep the isolation. However, if I go with the relay I'm thinking maybe the 12v pin on the far right of the VFD control bus may work for the relay side of the circuit saving me from having to get another supply.

Question: Which would be better and why? If the relay is the way to go does it seem plausable that the 12v at the far right end of the VDF control bus is meant to be the power to all the digital pins? (All the pins except the AVI pin) And... if that's the case why was the FWD pin wired for 24v to begin with? I'm l a little confused here... :)

Thanks for any help you can give, I've exhausted every resource I have and have spent days searching without any clarity.

Ken

Need Help! AXBB-E only putting out 2.1 Volts on step and direction ports

I have a problem getting my motors to react to UCCNC. It seems as though the board AXBB-E is only putting out 2.1V on the non-isolated outputs. Shouldn’t that be 5V?

Any ideas what might be causing it? I checked my power supplies and they are putting out 5V and 24V respectively. I am stumped

Problem Z axis stalls

Having problem with the Z axis, started out intermittent. The Z axis stalls or slows down with the stepper motor chattering. When it slows down you hear the stepper motor chatter. When it stops you don't hear anything from the stepper motor. I use the arrow buttons to move the Z axis up and down, intermittently it will slow down or stop in the down movement, some times I can move it up with the arrow button. Sometimes I just wait a little and it works again for a little while. The display shows the Z axis is moving but it's stopped not moving. At first I though it was mechanical perhaps the ball screw but with the Z axis not moving and the numbers moving on the display and the stepper motor being silent I now think it's either the stepper motor, the gecko drive or it not getting the step pulses from the controller. Any thoughts on what parts I should buy first. Yesterday it failed 3 time and I crashed into the part I was cutting then it ran for 6 hours straight without a problem. This morning I did test with the arrow buttons and it failed intermittently more time than I could keep track of, now the machine is down. Please give me your thoughts everyone.

Thanks Joe

Dear members,

I hope that this letter will find you in good health. I would like to ask if you can guide me on how to setup a CNC machine, which is manufactured from BiesseGroup. The main function of this machine is to cut glass. The machine uses ICam 1.5 software, and the model of this CNC machine is Intermac PRO with axle configuration in VETRO format, and with a working area of 4100 x 2200.

When I have done the installation of the machine software, the serial key given by the buyer has been accepted by the program, but when I have tried to open the program, I've received a message "Protection test failed ***Demo Version***". Also when I try to access the BiesseGroup folder in Common Files, to use the application RegLicenze,in order to test the interconnection between computer and the machine, I receive the message "Protezione Hardware NON trovata", which means in English "Hardware protection NOT found".

For your information, this is the view that I see during the opening of the program:

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Dokleat

Need Help! Rapid Override selector doesn’t work on Teknics VMC 520

We have a Teknics VMC RC-520 with a Fanuc 0M-A. After an alarm and the memory cleared, we have reloaded all the parameters and the diagnostics from 300 to 800. Now the machine run normally except the Rapid Override selector doesn’t work. The rapid feed is always at 100%. When we change the selector from 0 to 25 to 50 to 100, I could see the diagnostic 0000 bit 6 and the diagnostic 0002 bit 0 changing from 0 to 1. I would much appreciate for sending me parameters(diagnostic) 0 to 300 from the machine builder. Kindly help me to solve this problem.

Thanks!

Hello, I have built a cnc table with a nvum as controlboard and a 1.5kw water-cooled spindle controlled by a VFD. Now I have the problem that when I turn on the spindle, my usb control board stops working. what could be the problem? I hope you can help me with this problem

Need Help! False E-stop triggers. Need help finding and eliminating noise.

$
0

Anytime someone asks me about building a CNC machine I tell them absolutely do not. Buy a kit that already has the bugs worked out and a support system in place to troubleshoot. Learn from my mistakes!

My DIY machine has been pretty much unusable since installing home switches with my G540 system. I will run a program and get an error message in UCCNC that reads "Ext E-stop triggered". I am running a Bosch 1617 router with an 80-20 frame and gantry. I figured this false E-stop was a noise problem so I been trying to add measures to eliminate the noise. I believe the noise is coming from the 1617 because if I drop feeds and speeds along with depth of cut I can reduce the frequency of it. But once the router starts to chatter or plunge into a heavy cut, E-stop.

I have sheilded wire on all my stepper motors (minus about 2" between where I soddered the wire and the motor casing, is that a problem?) tied to pin 3 on the Db9 connector. Shielded wire on all my limit switches tied to the ground inside my electronics enclosure. I hadn't grounded my machine bed or gantry before so I did that this weekend running ground lines to several points on the machine and did continuity checks to make sure everything is grounded, especially the body of the 1617. After all this I still get E-stop triggers.

I am thinking maybe I have a ground loop? I dont really know what that is except for reading about it on various forums and hearing its a bad thing. I have all my electronics in a 8"x10"x6" metal enclosure (AC inputs, 48V DC power supply, 12V DC power supply, G540, aviation plugs for limit switches, etc.), can I be generating noise inside the box? If that is the case, how do you explain the 1617 bogging down and immediately getting a false trigger?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Here is a diagram I drew up on how I have wired things together inside my box. Maybe it will help see if I have something hosed up. https://imgur.com/KHX9mrb

Tonight I plan on taking limit switches out one by one to see if I can run a full program without any false triggers. If you have other recommendations on troubleshooting steps to locate or diagnose the noise source and or where the false trigger is coming from please let me know. Also, it might be pertinent that I am using a laptop running UCCNC and UC100.

Multicam Connection issues

$

Hello all,

Firstly can i say how impressed i am with this forum and i think my head is going to explode with the wealth of knowledge on here.

I have purchased a 5x10 Multicam Router.
Currently it is running an M23 v4.03 board. built in 1996. (im able to utilise the stack of dell d630 laptops i have laying around for this beast) :)
so obviously im running a serial connection.

I have a business project in mind and i dont intend on cutting intricate parts so for now the M23 controller will be fine untill i have the money and the 'stones' to upgrade the hardware.

My issue i hope will be simple for some of you experts.
Machine connects to motion controller running Multicam S4 but when i try and find a cnc file the device states unable to connect to Host.

This is baffeling me and i have tried as many settings as i dare.
If i install multicam 3.5 software the host connects and i can choose a file. another baffeling part is the files i run through the older software do not cut to the correct size that i have expressed in Vetrics Aspire.

I am hopeing somebody can point me in the right direction.

if you need anymore information other them the following please let me know.
M23 from 1996
Windows xp, serial connection.
multicam suite 4
unable to connect to host
Vectric to produce all gcodes or HPLT.

Thank you in advance
