Have a cncrp 5x10 machine with their nema 34 electronics package and a cnc depot s30c starter package on the way. I run the machine via mach3 and my primary design software is vectric aspire. This is my first time to dabble in ATC so needless to say I am absolutely green to the concept. I dont know what I need to make this run, software, connectors, solenoid or whatever additional items required to achieve the machine to reach ATC status. Any and all help/input would be greatly appreciated and in advance I thank you kindly!

CNC for beginner

Hello, I am a hobby woodworker, new to CNC, and I have obtained a CNC3040 router for engraving and cutting 20mm plywood templates, and I am looking for the best software to connect.

My computer is a HP Compaq dc7700 with 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. This computer has a 25 pin parallel port and USB 2.0 ports

Can anyone please recommend a suitable software package for my application? Also, what type of connection and additional hardware will I need between the PC and the CNC3040 control box?

regards to all,

Jill

MK3/9 new firmware + ExtOut board

$

Hi,
I own an MK3 / 9 Controller; after updating the firmware for the new TNG v.2 the ExtOut board with relay at each new switch-on has all the active outputs, which did not happen with the old firmware used with CNCUSB. I think it is a peculiarity / bug of the new firmware as the outputs are activated even if the software is closed (therefore with the controller only turning on). At the moment I have no device connected to the relays and with the M64 command I can disable them but the fact that they are activated at power on could be dangerous when I connect accessories to the outputs.
My ExtOut card is the PoExtBusRe of Polabs very similar to that of Planet.

New, never used 100w Black & Red Cutter is arcing on setup...

While setting this machine up for the first time and pulsing the laser for alignment, the HV cathode/positive connection arced, and the laser never fired.

Searching through this forum I saw some connection ideas that are far better than the OEM manual. So, I removed and replaced the silicone again with a tubing insulator cut of from the air tube. Unfortunately, it's still arcing. Negative side is fine. Not sure what else to do besides wrap the hell out of it with HV 600v electrical tape from one end to the next and cover it with black flex tubing.

Before I make things worse, I'd like to see what ya'all think and how you might have remedied this problem. Maybe I'm missing something, did something wrong. Just frustrated and dead in the water right now.

Thank you!

New controller wiring - charge pump to drop G201X drive power, or ???

$

I've recently purchased a CNCDrive AXBB-E controller, and will be wiring it into a Romaxx WD-1 CNC. The existing wiring uses Mach3's Charge Pump circuit in series with the E-stop button to drive a relay which in turn drops power to the G201X drives. I've read elsewhere that dropping power to the drives can be damaging. It would seem that another method might be to use the same approach but instead of dropping drive POWER, to simply drag the drive's DISABLE terminal to ground.

I'd be interested to hear other more experienced users' perspectives, thanks!

5 Axis set up Fanuc help needed

I have set all parameters required so far as i understand. I have checked and set centre of rotation on A(tilt) and C(rotate), set datums for test sphere in G54 using Renishaw probe. Ran my test program with probe for positional checks using G68.2P0 format and what I am finding is that all A0 positions are good positions xyz, in all A- direction positions my xy are pretty good but my Z axis positions are giving me a -0.12mm error, my A+ positions give me up to a +0.05mm error in Y and up to +0.05 mm in Z.

I am convinced my rotation centres are correct, my tool offset is correct and my G54 datum is correct. I cannot understand where the Z axis error is coming from. Are there any 5 axis experts that can help out there.

The configuration of the machine is a 3axis vertical machining centre with a bolt on 4th/5th axis unit, the control is 0IMF and can only control 4+1 moves.:drowning:

Thanks

Blending function does not work in 3D

I got TNG V2 running and for the most part it looks very good.
However, I notice the blending feature (I have it set at the default values of 1.5mm / 0 degrees / 135 degrees) seems to work only if the machine is running in the x/y plane. As soon as the machine ramps the z-axis while moving, the blending appears to be suspended (even if the path angle change is very small) and starts decelerating and accelerating in very short increments.

I have attached 4 gcode files that show the blending when machining flat (steady feed rate) and what happens when z goes up and down (stops for each segment). Especially with the spiral this gets annoying and slow.

This behavior makes 3d-carving almost impossible. What can I do about that? Should I make the "Join" angle greater than zero? I guess then it might work at least like the old USBCNC?
For that matter, it would be worthwhile to get more explanation how the blending works and how to set the parameters, maybe with a sketch.

Bubble in laser tube

I've just filled the laser tube for the first time in my DIY laser. It's an EFR F2 80W. It says the flow rate can be as low as 2 litres a minute and I just measured mine at 2.6l/min so I assume ok. However, there is a bubble in the glass tube and it's not moving. There are loads of really tiny ones too but I'm guessing they will dissapate in time. The laser tube is level as directed by the EFR installation details. I could probably adjust to give it a very slight uphill in necessary. The thing is though, do I need worry about the bubble? I have attached a photo.

Hello Gents!

I'd like to mill a hexagon on a MoriSeiki lathe (with X and C axes) with Fanuc control. As I know the right solution is the G12.1 polar coordinate programming. Can you please help me out with the G codes? The hexagon is a SW30 (see attached).

Thanks very much!

Measure Grid Z and other features disabled on Planet CNC's CNC USB Controller

Hello,
I just got a very simple chinese CNC 3-axis gantry router that is based on a MK1-clone (JP-3163B) controller and includes the CNC USB controller software of version 2.10.1208.601. I managed to get the machine running and did some primitive milling jobs in plywood, acrylic and aluminium.
My goal is to make PCBs though.

Therefore I tried to gather a matrix of z height values of the PCB base material to later compensate for the warping of the board. My problem is that Machine -> Transformation -> Capture & Measure Points -> Measure -> Measure Grid Z and most other features are greyed out (disabled).
I've done some research on that problem (maybe using the wrong terms) with little to no success...
That's what I've tried:
  • In Settings -> Tool Sensor I checked "Enable" and entered some size, retract height, etc. values
  • In Settings -> Inputs all check boxes are greyed out. So exported, modified and reimported the settings file. Now everything is still greyed out, but "Use Tool Sensor" is checked.
  • Created some tools and selected one via Machine -> Tools -> Change
  • Restarted the program, the PC, the CNC-Machine dozens of times...
  • Set XY and Z zero Positions and moved the tool around.
  • Measured Tool Length

In total I've spent days without any success. I'm desperate and hoping for your help :(

What are the preconditions for that menu item to become active?
Is it dependent of the controller board or might this be a license issue?
What else should I try to get it working?

Thanks in advance and best regards!

Need Help! Leadwell w OMF setting z-axis for tool change ??

$

Hi,

We are nearly at the end phase 1 for getting a '93 leadwell OP with fanuc OMF. "We" are a zero-cost, non-profit teaching high school student robotics, mechanical design and cnc. We no experience setting up or operating a leadwell (or any other cnc machine).

Currently, our tool carousel is bumping the spindle nose, not a good thing. BTW, our robotics teams started Oct 25 and we still don't have any working cnc machine.

A bit a background, we got this machine with no parameters and the parameters were recreated from reading the fanuc manuals and with invaluable help from forum members, TriStar and CAMPAT.

From help from CAMPAT,
TriStar and fanuc, I was told to use either parameters 510 (z-axis grid shift) or 737 (REF2Z- distance from reference point to second reference point) and setting using [G91, G28, Z0] or [G91, G30, Z0] (respectively) to set the z-axis positions during change operations. The G codes needs power-off to take effect.

On "our" leadwell, using parameter 510 (grid shift = 1000/1mm) has no effect on z-axis position. Don't know why, maybe another wrong parameter ?

Parameter 737 does moves the z-axis, however it turns off ZRN and tool change fails due to not on ZRN. When ZRN reaches 0 after power-off/on, it in the same position (measured with a dial indicator).

Neither using 510 or 737 moves the z-axis during tool change operations, which I expect to happen.

What am I doing/thinking wrong ?

Thanks
gary

Daisy-chaining coolant containers

$

New to forum so not sure where to post this... couldn't find a 'fluidics' section :)
The question relates to linking multiple coolant containers together so each one syphons into the next... will the levels in each container remain constant?

The photo shows the 3 x 5-litre containers, although only container 3 is connected due to the problem outlined below.

I started with containers 1 & 2 linked with flexible tubing pushed into holes at the top so their open ends are below the liquid surface. Same for containers 2 & 3. The tube from the spindle motor goes to container 1, and container 3 goes to the pump. All tubes are a tight-ish push fit but they're not airtight.

The assumption was that the levels in each container would remain equal when the pump was running... and this was in fact the case for the last few months of use.

The problem is I've just revamped the workshop so had to dismantle and re-connect everything, and now the levels are not staying equal when the pump is running. Container 1 rises higher than 2, and 2 rises higher than 3. I had to resort to just using container 3 to avoid container 1 overflowing.

I've confirmed all tubes are still below the liquid surface, so the questions are:-
1. Does it matter if the joints are airtight or not?
2. Does the amount of tubing below the surface matter?
3. Was it pure fluke it worked before?

question about adjusting air flow valves on tool changer BMC30M

I wonder if there is a written procedure for adjusting the air flow control valves on the tool magazine controls. Right now the magazine rotates too slowly and sometimes wont even move. but we just can't get the control valves right. they are not very responsive and one affects the other, etc The door is too slow, the whole magazine comes over too fast and hits hard at the stop, just need some guidance.. Thanks, Kaase
