What does everyone use to hold down thin balsa and plywood on their CNC Router spoilb

I’m in the process of designing/building my 2nd CNC machine, first one was a 3D printer. I’m clueless about holding thin materials, as all I’ve seen are clamping systems for thicker materials.

What is the better board, for a lathe, using UCCNC software a UC300ETH or the UC400ETH and why?

Planning to upgrade my 6040

I'd like to upgrade the electronics on my 6040, which is a slightly older version of the omnio X6-1500GT (so I will also be adding limit switches). I think I've narrowed it down to two options, but I'm not sure which would be best.

Option 1: Leadshine MX3660 and a UC400ETH.

Option 2: Gecko G540 and UC400ETH.

I'm using Mach 3 now, but might try/switch to UCCNC.

Eventually, I'll probably buy the NEMA 23 steppers that CNC Router Parts sells and a few years later upgrade to their 2'x4' CRP2448 kit.

Need Help! x2 Mill upgrade to CNC

I have started my cnc upgrade, HF X2 mini mill.

I call it the "Blue OX"

Here is what I have done so far:

1. LMS Larger base:
2. LMS Solid Column
3. New placement of head.
4. Added ball screw to Z-axis
5. Air shock.
6. Ball screws Z & Y axis

Blue Ox.jpg

The mounting plate for the head looks off and it is. When I did the layout I did not center the head assembly on the back plane. The heads are spot on and only odd looking item is the mounting block. I am new at this and make some mistakes.
You can see that I got the Z-axis ball screw installed and it does work well. I am setting up the Y-axis now, the ball screw is longer the what it was before and the end of the ball screw has a bearing on it set in the back of the base mount. I am going to mount the motor off to the right as pictured so as not to have it protruding out the front of the mill.

I do not have another mill so I am using my 8x12/14 lathe as a mill and added a mount to hod pieces for milling.

I added a HF vice that I took apart and did the following:
1. lapped all slides to remove machining marks and paint.
2. add new handles
3. and rearranged the vice so I could get at the handles and gib set screws which I chained to socket head screws.

Center a Rotary Table in Under a Minute Without an Indicator_tmp_cover_206785391055.jpg

This is the test mounting of the vice and I will add a newer photo latter.

I was able to get all the movement out of the vice and by using the z-axis break I got it to stop moving.
This whole thing is trail and error.

If there is anyone in my area that can help it would be great, Chino Valley AZ. USA

Emco Turn 55 - CamConcept Error - 6014 No Main Spindle Speed

Dear all

I am new to using the PC Turn 55 running Camconcept software connected via Ethernet.

I have not been able to get the spindle to spin up. I do not know what I am doing wrong in inputting spindle speed. When I attempted to run a program, the lathe turret will rotate to the correct tool and move itself into position and then I can hear a soft high pitch sound from the lathe followed by this message "Turning Cycle 6014 No main spindle speed".

I have input the spindle speed for roughing and finishing in the tools section. Am i missing something?

The Emco Camconcept user manual is the absolute worse manual I have ever come across. it does not explain anything!

Please help. I cannot get the spindle to spin.

Thanks
frank

Newbie Emergency Mode/ReConfiguration Estop

Hi! I am a new member, been lurking for a bit. I had a custom CNC mill made for me. Unfortunately, the builder never finished/completed the machine, so I am left with trying to figure out what is wrong and how I can fix it. I am unsure of the hardware/boards within the control box, so literally any ideas as to what they are and where I can find documentation regarding them would be much appreciated.

The machine won't move upon starting Mach 3. It did at one point, but I relocated it to its final home, and now I am receiving a 'Emergency Mode Active...Press Reset' error upon loading the Smoothstepper driver - SmoothStepper_v17fe. When Mach loads, I hear a click in the box, and the Relay light comes on. When I exit Mach3, it clicks again, but the Relay light stays on. I can't disable the Estop in the Ports&Pins settings, I click it, but it never saves the setting. Not sure if its related, but there is a wire going into the 'IN3' connector, but that light doesn't illuminate, while all of the other (IN5 IN4 IN2) lights come on.

Under the Device status monitoring there are check marks next to 'estop' and 'is still'. When I toggle the limit switches manually Port 1, Pin 13 comes on and off - so that seems to be working.

Any ideas, comments, feedback is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Folks.

I am rebuilding my tilt door enclosure and thought I would take the opportunity to make a few videos promoting the idea of fabricating your own stand or enclosure via steel and arc welding.

Please let me know if, and what you are interested in, as I am mid process and I may be able to take more clips and extend to suit.

Cheers Cliff

CO2 Laser absorbing paint???

I was watching a video on YT where they are engraving an acrylic panel that is painted in white, then top coated in black. Then they proceed to laser engrave the acrylic and only burn off the black paint, claiming the white is "laser color".
Is there such a thing as a CO2 laser absorbing paint?

Does anyone know how to turn on Key Clicks?
I need an audible sound when any key is pressed in Pathpilot, mainly for the jog shuttle and the MDI entries. If I got a click I could tell if the entry was entered without looking at the keyboard.
Thanks for any help or insight.

Hello everyone from Italy!

Disclaimer: I'm sorry fom my Horrible english, but I studied French...

Issue: Im looking for C code instruction for KFLOP Board.

In the user manual, they are few and briefly descripted, but when i watching the KMotionDef.H file, the instruction are much more than user manual!

Furthermore: The instruction they have a very short description, often too tight to be understandable

Question: Is there a document where these instructions (all) are described in more detail?

Thanks!

Chinese 40w co2 laser engraver problem

Hi everyone. You guys are my last hope. it feels like i have tried so many different solutions without results. Have been trying get the machine to work for a while now, without sucess any at all. It worked as it should when i got it and upgraded a couple of things but when i came to the controller everything stoped work.

Exchnged the original controller board for a arduino 2560 mega with ramps 1.4 and 2 drv8825 drivers. I have tried different codes, like turnkey tyrrany , Marlin kimbra k40 master, marlin kimbra 4_2_9. Manage to get the code on to the arduino and the menues work just fine.

But the steppers dosen´t move. I can manage to lock and release them, when i tried the move x and y axis setting they just vibrate back and forth and when i try to set it to home-position it makes a horrible sound.
i deattached one of the steppers to try it. Can´t get it to work ether. tryied with different stepper testing code, dident work with any of the firmware, tried with the simpler test codes, tried that test with a cappasitor ,it moved just a small bit and locked itself in that position. I tried to put leds on each of the coils and both lit up when i rotated the axis.

As you maby undrstand by now i am a compleatly newbee (with quite bad english too) hope you understand the post, and if you have any suggestions what more i can do to troubleshoot it? or get it to work?

Retiring from the Corps in a few years & I'm set on creating carbon fiber stocks.

I'm interested in a tooling list that includes:
1. CNC machine model to make aluminum molds.
2. Best (or ideal) CAD software to use for design.
3. Aluminum block type and sources to purchase from.
4. Carbon fiber mold tooling list. Possible suppliers.
5. Other items such as furnace etc.

Accurate lightweight mountain rifles is my goal.
