Inexpensive rotary attachment for Thunderlaser Nova 35?

$

I would like to experiment with a rotary attachment on the Nova 35, but $450-$500 for the rotary is more than I'm comfortable with spending for one at the moment. Does anyone know if the less expensive chuck style rotary attachments will work on the Nova 35? I've seen some priced in the range of $180-$190 for Chinese lasers, but I'm not sure if they are compatible with the Thunderlaser.

Thanks.

Confession Time - Sold my Soul for my CNC

So this is a bit of a confession and a request for guidance. When I bought my CNCRouterParts 4896 Pro a couple of years ago I needed to sell a number of my existing tools to afford it. For the most part that has been OK. I sold my Sawstop Tablesaw, Powermatic 8" HH jointer, Dewalt Planer, Router table, Drum Sander, Festool Router and Domino. Good news was I took minimal loss on selling these items. It seemed like the only thing I didn't sell was my blood. Lately I am getting a bit more active with my craft and feel I am lacking those tools. Mainly for the sake of expediency/efficency. My CNC can do most of the operations I need but just not necessarily as efficiently as some of the tools I have sold. So the guidance request is what would be and in what order should I reacquire those tools? My typical use is for sign making. The tablesaw was what I thought initially but then I thought that a jointer and planer might make more sense as those operations are so much more efficient on purpose built tools. Another tool was the drum sander. BTW I still possess a bandsaw, SCMS, trim routers and a drill press. Your thoughts and guidance are appreciated.

Super x3 Mill

Hi, I am looking for help on a new Super X3 mill/ drilling machine that I purchased as is “ shipping damage” There is absolutely no physical damage that I can see. But when I push the start button an error message is shown on the top panel display. How do I determine if it is the motor / front circuit board / rear circuit board. I can detect a slight (1/100”) movement on the spindle, but then the error message appears and that’s it. Looking for help and advice.

Newbie Torq-cut single phase

Hi everyone, I know this has been discussed. Converting Bridgeport Torq-cut to single phase.
But my brain wants to know how removing one wire from the VFD allows the VFD to still work? Why have a wire go there in the first place? Thanks in advance (And just be glad You don't have to live with my brain!).

Suddenly jamming!

I purchased the parts for my CNC machine a while back, and seem to be having an issue. I'm hoping you may have seen this before. (I've attached a video of the issue, here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0...zRCUXhpcHY5eEE.)

My x-axis motor is "jamming", for lack of a better term. When this first happened, it was during a cut, and so I did some troubleshooting. It's not jamming because there's any push-back from the stock being cut. I raised the bit above the material, and ran the machine back and forth. The issue still happens intermittently. I then thought it was jamming on the gearing or on the chain, however, I don't see anything in the way at all. The bearings all flow smoothly.

When I remove power, I can move the x-axis smoothly. I do hear a bit of the grinding sound at some points, as if there was something in the motor clunking away) and I've done all I can to figure this out. I would really appreciate some fresh thoughts on the matter.

Do motors fail this way after time? Is it possible there's not enough power getting to the motor? Is it possible that the signals aren't being sent or received properly between the adapters and the motor?

This is only happening on my x-axis. I'm hoping the community could provide me with some ideas of things to check. I built this personally, and have never come across an issue like this before. I appreciate ANY feedback you may have!

Thank you all!

Rick

Need Help! Mach3 Breakout Board 5 Axes PWM to VFD output problem...

Hi,

I am using Mach3 Breakout Board 5 Axes on my second Parallel port for Spindle switching ON/OFF, Spindle speed controlling (PWM 1-10V output) and Auto Tool Zeroing...

When I try to change spindle speed from MACH3 I get only 0 to 1.865V on output pins... Also there is about same value of 1.865V on LM317 output pins...

LM317 input voltage is 14V
LM317 output voltage is 1.865V
Voltage between ADJ and Vout is 1.25V
Resistance ADJ to GND 20KOhm
Resistance Vout to ADJ 24KOhm

Any idea, and/or schematics of BOB?

Need Help! Is there a way to machine (facing) concrete?

$

Hi all,

I have concrete cylinders that are for compression and tensile testing. In order for them to be tested the concrete must be perpendicular on each end to the "side" of the cylinder. Is there a way to face the ends of the cylinder? I was thinking about PCD inserts but I am worried about blowing up my tooling when I hit rocks and such things in the concrete. The inserts in question are nearly $800 for a set and I can't really blow up $800. I don't even know if concrete is machinable.

Thanks!

We have been trying to cut a large number of small objects on a single sheet of arborite. We are able to get several cut then our CNC router fails to align with one of our previous cut lines. My explanation is probably lacking. If we are cutting a rectangle and the starting point is in the middle of one of the long sides of the rectangle, when the bit get around to starting point it may be off by as much as .125: inches. The two lines do not align.
Has anyone have any suggestion they can offer.
Thanks
Ralph

We have an scm routech 220. very happy with the machine. We run it with alphacam 2001. Seems like work is picking up and we should upgrade software. With an old router (good shape, well maintained) is the latest program going to benefit us? What is the best place to purchase upgrade/new software?

Thanks Ben

Need Help! Fanuc 3T control locked up

$

Bought a Mori Seiki SL-3A. Fanuc 3T control.

Saw it run just fine before purchased. After shipping, it was on a X limit switch. Powered up with servo alarm, normal. Rotated ball screw by hand, got it off the switch, no more alarm, all is well.

Got an over travel alarm when trying to home X. Normal, no big deal. Everything else works perfectly well. Was looking online for what parameter it was, and read a post where someone said "hold down - and . under power up and you will get a menu that allows you to bypass the travels and home it" ...

Being lazy, I did this. Should have just changed the parameter.... but I didn't. After powering on holding - and . , the screen was a jumbled, giant mess. Bunch of white static looking stuff. FAPT side worked fine, NC side nothing. Power off, power on. Screen is okay, and got a 101 alarm. Manual said hold del and reset to clear it. So I did this. (Parameter write switch off)

Power back up, and FAPT side works fine, NC side just says "not ready" , but , I cannot change screens. I want to see what the parameters and stuff look like, but when I press ANY button on the NC side, the screen does not change. It acts like it is frozen. I can go back to FAPT and all of this works, but nothing on NC side works at all. If I press NC it goes to the main screen that days D06 - 01 or something , and below that a solid NOT READY.

Already did enough stupid stuff to screw this up, before I initialize the memory and wipe everything (my last idea), wanted to see what anyone had to say.

The main board has 3 LED's on it. 1 green, 1 red, and another red watch dog. All 3 LED's are lit.
No alarms.

Thank you all for your time and advice and help. I don't post on here really at all, but I do read a lot. Never holding a button down while powering on... ever... again...

Need Help! Tapping Thomson 1 1/4" ss 440c linear rail

Guys so I need to mount new round linear rails on my machine. So I found a deal from eBay but they seem to be the 440c case hardened and not the normal 1566 steel. I was pretty sure I'd have no trouble cutting the normal rail with a carbide endmill then drilling and tapping as normal but will I be able to do the same on this stainless rail? Or should I just buy the regular rail? I would prefer the stainless just because it won't rust for sure but really I just need the hardest rail possible as my last rail essentially seems like it got soft and the balls from the linear rail dug into it causing grooving. This may have been caused when one of the linear bearings seized but they have been replaced.

For reference this is Thomson 1 1/4 linear rail and super 20 bearings

Problem Same program different results

First off thanks for any information possible.

We recently bought a Fadal VMC15 20 x 16 x 20. An exact twin to a machine we are currently running these stamps on. Same program same tools, and no cutter comp is being used in either machine. The "new" machine has a few issues we've found on these little stamps. It is gouging and cutting an odd profile. In the picture provided it shows the significant differences. I'm fairly sure its a parameter issue but not sold on it yet. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks

Edit toolpath: an alternative selection in the move command in the help files

Been exploring the move command in the help files and see that the point selection when used in conjunction with direct auto as the link, the rapid moves move down to a z amount desired.

Is there another way to move the rapid moves with drag select or polygon pick? The reason for this is that while the example has just a few points, doing that for 100 rapids would take too long to pick both ends of each rapid move. I have tried both the drag select or polygon pick but it seems to shift down the vertical rapid as well but placing the horizontal rapid per the z amount.

hi all
im new to the cnc world... something like 6 months till now
i have build this machine (pic 1) from scrap wood and an old industrial printer parts, orderd some step motors (pic 2) , made the shild for the step motor controllers (pic 3) , made the power sorce for 3 motors and fan from an ATX power box (pic 4)

i made a temporery mount for a pen (pic 5) and attached a pen to the Z axis as a spindel for testing and calibrating steps to the GRBL $100 $101 $102 and since all 3 motors are same and my rods are same i have inputed the same calculation for all 3 of them.

after i have created a G-CODE in form of a CN file on MAKERCAM and i sended to the machine via UGS
the resolt was ok but the problem is that after it finish the job it stay on the last point it finished and not going back to the 0 , 0 , 0 point

anyone can solve this ishu ? any tips ?

F*cking FANUC AGAIN. 914 RAM Parity Servo OM-B

Middle of a part last week, machine pops up 914 Ram Parity Error. Screenshot attatched. Not a lot on the web to diag this, but a few people say its the Servo Board (the 3 axis one on the drive). First thing, cleared machine memory, re-enter params, same error. Ok, go on Ebay, order a board from China, install, error persists. re-clear memory, enter params again. Same thing. WTF. Anyone know what else to look for. Unless its RAM on the main board, is that removable like the Ladder chips? I need to get this thing up again. maybe Memoryman can chip in? I found something on KFASLLC about showing an address for where the error occured, but it looks like thats a newer control version.

Ladder was written a few years ago to run on a daughter board instead of the main board since the ladder EEPROMS were blank when I bought the machine. No idea why they werent written to run on the standard Mainboard.
