Spindle operation

OI am setting up a used cnc I bought. I have struggled through getting the axeis to move but got x y z working. I can load a g code into mach3 and get it to run correctly. I can not get spindle to turn on. I know that it worked before I bought the machine. In the manual it says not to touch the inverter buttons as they were set at the factory. I touched the buttons I have contacted the builder of the machine and got no help. Has anyone got any ideas.
