Greetings,
I have an opportunity to purchase a MultiCam MG-305 but no training is provided on the unit. I'm an R&D engineer and have hands-on experience running Flow Jet waterjets and own a cnc plasma cutter. So I'm not a total tard when it comes to software packages or working with electro-mechanical devices. Although I won't at all claim to be an expert. I'm trying to educate myself and can't seem to locate much of any information on the MultiCAM MG series.
The unit runs MultiCam's proprietary "3D controller" on a Windows 98 computer. Accepts both HPGL and g-code files. Can anyone tell me if this controller and the cam program are any good?
I'd like to upgrade Windows to at least XP (ideally Windows 7) and was wondering if I will run into OS compatibility issues given the MG series configuration?
I'm hoping the "3D controller" and Multicam's CAM software from 2000 is generally regarded as good. If not, should I plan on upgrading to something more mainstream like WinCNC or Mach3 + Smooth Stepper?
ANY information or experience on this units is helpful to me. I mainly will be using it for milling / surfacing / planning operations on hardwood tops and cabinet work. Eventually I want to do 2.5D carvings.
Thanks!
