Biesse Skill Tool Touch Off Help
Hey guys
Been helping some friends of mine programming their Biesse Skill 1536. I come from a background of using Centroid, Onsrud/Fanuc, Mach3 and the whole BiesseWorks thing is kind of totally new to me. I was able to get a post processor to program the machine which was all I cared about, and apparently they have an operator so it should be easy. But apparently the "operator" has been measuring the tool offsets with a tape measurer.
Now, they have a touch off pad mounted to the machine and apparently it's been used in the past with a more competent employee, but no current employee knows how to use it?! ..Can anyone out there please tell me brief instructions and let me know what tab or icon to click on BiesseWorks to get to touch off the dang tool please? (Sounds ridiculous I know, but this is a new world for me)
Thanks ahead!!!

Choosing CNC machine
We used to outsource CNC machining and finally decided to buy our own CNC machine.
However we are short on cash. What brands would you recommend to look at ? We need something similar to Haas VF series possibly with option to add 4th and 5th axis.
We mostly do prototyping and small batches.
Any suggestions ?

Rejuvenating My EM3116
Before I begin I just want to say I understand some parts of this post may seem like 'flogging a dead horse' on the surface. But I feel I have done my due diligence and researched before posting. Having done that I found most of the information to be at least a few years old & therefore a bit dated. Times change, products advance and opinions may have been swayed since then.
Start with what I have, I have a Dyna EM3116 in good & function-able condition. A few years ago I set about to 'modernize' my machine, in doing so I have acquired the following:
Dell 24" touchscreen (building into a control panel to replace standard unit)
DMM DYN4 servo drivers (x3)
DMM .750kw servos (x3)
DMM breakout board
ESS board (this is expendable)
all electrical components to populate cabinet (contactors, fuses, power supplies etc.)
VFD to manage spindle motor
What I wish to achieve:
I wish to build this up to a 5 axis reliable machine that feels modern to use. The umbrella that shadows me in many ways is I only have access to 240v single phase.
What I would like from you guys is a bit of help in deciding on an appropriate controller. I do not want to go for a Chinese solution & I would like to stay away from Mach3/4. Through research and process of elimination I have narrowed it down to a few choices (unless you can add something else).
Masso: I really like the simplicity this unit brings to the system, especially not needing a PC and being a true standalone. It seems fairly flexible and adaptable, clean & functional GUI. Downside, there have been some unfavorable reviews thus far (old posts). When researching it almost feels like it is still in an infant state. Not sure if this is because people have moved away from this unit or its community is just not active enough. Also they don't seem to support widescreen & I would have to put up with those annoying black borders either side. A constant reminder I made a wrong choice somewhere along the line (me being precious)
Kflop: Another solid choice, and if I am not mistaken will also function in a standalone format (no PC). Another good point to the Kflop is Tom seems to be always present. To be totally honest, Tom scares me! He strikes me as a SUPER intelligent person and his answers reflect that. Previous conversations with Tom have left me running back down the Google rabbit hole to decipher what he just said. Downside, at least to me. The system seems to be more for the technically minded, next level if you will. I am concerned I would get lost in this and never actually get going. Not saying I'm stupid, because I'm not. But I am aware there are levels above me and above my scope of abilities.
Linuxcnc & mesa card: I like that there is expansion possibilities here, weather I will use them or not. Linuxcnc from what I have found out seems to be a favorable choice for many. I really like the PathPilot interface as well as one that was submitted as a proposal for widescreen touch (link below if interested). I like the fact it is adaptable and with the Linuxcnc community by your side the sky is the limit! Downsides: it comes across as fiddly, in need of a tinkerer by its side. It appears to need a reasonable amount of Linux language & programming knowledge.
Galil I know little to nothing about, though I do see them mentioned a lot & with high regard. Before anyone mentions Acorn, I have looked into them but they are limited by their 4 Axis offerings.
I would really appreciate any help I can get and thank you in advance. Also feel free to correct me if anything I have said is not accurate, just do respectfully please :)

Is Fiber the most flexible type of Laser for engraving?
I work in digital print but have been toying with the idea of laser engraving for a while now and I'm looking to take the plunge. I was wondering if anyone could give real-world experiences and feedback where they've worked with a wide variety of mediums?
I'm looking to primarily engrave on wood and metals (gold, silver, steel, aluminium) - for wood it would probably be tending towards the less detailed side of things (text and vector graphics), metal would likely involve some jewellery, which wouldn't be particularly detailed but would obviously be working on much smaller scale.
If at all possible, I'd like something I could experiment with a variety of mediums on; stone, glass, leather (marking), perhaps light cutting of paper/sticker cut-outs. Is it possible to get a machine that can do it all?
I'm open to Chinese import but would like low maintenance if possible, I'd suspected fiber would be the way to go. However, my research suggests Fiber wouldn't be a great choice for wood?
Some sites explicitly say it won't work, however, I've found some evidence of it being possible (videos on ), so has the tech moved on?
I now realise I might have to choose a camp: co2 or fiber.
It would be for commercial application, so I've got a budget around $10k. A large-ish working area would be beneficial if I was looking to engrave, say, 20 pens in a go but obviously I may need to compromise and am completely aware of that!

Gamet Pneumatic Seals
Hi, Has anyone every changed the seals on the rotary joint of the pneumatic drawbar? I have stripped mine down and replaced the 'O' ring seals in the piston unit but there is still quite a bit of air leaking through somewhere. I have spent quite a bit of time searching for information but with no luck. Any info would be great.

Getting different results when changing the feed rate on my machine.
I am getting different results when changing the feed rate on my machine. When the feed rate is slower the engraving looks a lot better. Anyone know what would cause this?
When you look at the picture of the two "e"s the first "e" was done at a higher speed and the second "e" was done at a slower speed. So my question is what the hell would cause this? We replaced the bearing blocks on the X axis do we need to replace them on the Y axis too?

Newbie Buying used??
New to CNC. Looking at buying sidekick 8. The set up is 3 years old. Table, Powermax 45XP, Sidekick router package. Is this a good decision or should I just look at new? What should I be careful of?
This is for a hobby shop, that hopefully can grow to pay for its self.

Need Help! Laser cutting - Missing while cutting
My machine is missing small +-0.5 to 1 mm areas whist cutting. Its is NOT at random. Each cut I do has the missing areas at exactly the same location. Also cutting shapes are not as smooth as it us to be? Its as if it makes a little lip just before it misses.
Recently had an issue where my Y axis was stuck. Opened the motor and found the problem (A loose washer), but before that I tried a million things to find the problem and I might of changed something I am not aware of.

mazatrol M32 problem graphics
cordial greeting.
We have a machining center with mazatrol M32. The lubrication pump stopped working, our technician removed the pump. but I leave a 24VDC cable sticking in the machine housing.
the machine turned off, we corrected the cable but the machine presents the data as it is in the image.
The machine works normal, you have all its functions, reference, spindle spins, we run a program. The only mistake we have is the representation of the data.
Some will know what the error may be, if it is graphic or software.
thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Need Help! ADTECH CNC4640 can't read from usb
A friend has asked for help with his cnc router, he is unable to load programs from the usb drive.
The machine was shutdown over the holiday period, and on return it no longer reads from the usb drive, the response from the system is "can't open catalog"
We have tried:
Reboots
Using different usb drives, formatted fat32 and ntfs etc.
Replaced the usb connector
using the SD card slot
On bootup:
system ver: 0.7.09
Hardware ver: 2.0
I have no experience with this controller so looking for any guidance available, i'm currently trying to find the correct manual and will also look at hooking up to a laptop to transfer programs via network port, all help appreciated.

Using different usb drives, formatted fat32 and ntfs etc.
Replaced the usb connector
using the SD card slot
On bootup:
system ver: 0.7.09
Hardware ver: 2.0
I have no experience with this controller so looking for any guidance available, i'm currently trying to find the correct manual and will also look at hooking up to a laptop to transfer programs via network port, all help appreciated.

Newbie Buying used??
New to CNC. Looking at buying sidekick 8. The set up is 3 years old. Table, Powermax 45XP, Sidekick router package. Is this a good decision or should I just look at new? What should I be careful of?
