Problem HyPro HT2000 Restarting on cut path

$

I have a HyPro HT2000 high def Plasma on a water table machine. Using oxy and nitrogen for piercing and oxygen and shop air for cutting. All the settings are dialed in exactly per the spec in cut charts.
Occasionally, a previously cut part will tip up and cause a torch collision, which naturally stops the machine motion. If I try to back up on the cut path right next to where there is clean metal, almost like an edge pierce, most times I can’t get the arc to start unless I use a thin strip of 12-14 sheet metal under the torch to sustain the arc.

Example, today I was cutting 3/8” mild steel with 130A consumables, and had a part tip up and stop the machine. Settings for 3/8, with 130a on pierce delay is 0.3 seconds. When I try to use the strip of metal under the torch head when it comes down to pierce, it will pierce, but since it’s only 14ga, it pierces, then arc can’t sustain itself. Only when I go back into settings and change pierce delay to zero, then sometimes it pierces and can continue cutting. Even that isn’t fool proof. I have a thermal dynamics high def plasma water table machine as well, and really don’t like that brand because of some other unrelated issues. But for whatever reason, it can pierce on a path that has already been cut, with a huge pierce delay if you let it, and arc sustains itself. Is there some tricks or tips that can be used on the Hypertherm system? Love the machine and the power supply, but restarting the cut, as is occasionally needed, is a pain in ass.

Thanks for any advice!

Transfer program from pc to mazak fusion 640mt

Hi all,
I’m trying to get the communication working on our integrex 200sy. I can send an eia program from the machine to the pc, but then I try to send it right back and I haven’t been able to get it to work. I’m getting codes 550 & 551 something like“ couldn’t locate program on tape”. I’m using data I/o, tape, and only trying to transfer eia programs. When I send from the machine to the pc it output a % sign at the beginning of the program. I tried deleting that as well as leaving it, to no avail. Also the machine outputs several G424 codes at the beginning of the program,?.

Obviously I don’t know much about this, and am looking for some expertise on the subject.
Ay hel is appreciated.

I might be answering my own question but if my email address has changed and I'm using a different computer or else I haven't logged on in a while do I have to re-register. I did today but I can't seem to log on as who I used to be. Doesn't matter to me but it would be nice because I have posted some pretty good stuff.

Cutting 3mm cast acrylic with a 30W Chinese laser?

$

Hey,

I am looking to cut 3mm acrylic (for hobby purposes), and then engraving it with text.

I looked at buying a K40 laser from China but I have concerns that I won't be able to clear it with my country's customs due to the laser component.

I have an opportunity to locally purchase a used 30W Chinese 3020 laser cutter, which fits my working area requirements.

Will I be able to properly cut 3mm acrylic with 30W of power? Will I have to run my laser at high power therefore causing it to wear more quickly?

What might be important to note is that as the laser will be used for a hobby, it won't be used very frequently.

Thanks!

I'm having trouble with communicating through the RS232 port. I am able to send from the machine to the computer, but not from computer to machine. We did lose all parameters on this machine and had to restore them, so that may be the issue. We know it's not the cable and all the settings on the com software are set the same as the other 38 machines in the shop. It's on OT controller, anyone have any ideas? Thx

Using MC Posts in MC for Solidworks?

$

I have a client that needs to update much of their shop software. Currently they use 32bit MC X6 stand alone, and the reseller is suggesting that when they upgrade, they consider MC for Solidworks. The post they have for X6 have been heavily modified to include a lot of custom M codes and headers for automated processes among other things. Half the reason they haven't upgraded to newer versions is for fear or loosing these posts. I know there are tools for bringing older posts into newer versions of MC, but can these also be used with MC for SW? The last time I had post modified by this reseller, It took forever (months of back and forth), and never was 100% right.

First chips on Avid CNC Benchtop Pro 2x3 + CNCDepot S30C spindle

$

Heya folks. This is a cross-post from a thread in the CNCRouterParts forum: https://www.cnczone.com/forums/cnc-r...-cncdepot.html

I purchased a Benchtop Pro 2x3 and wired it up with a CNCDepot S30C spindle and Fogbuster to do some aluminum milling. I posted to the CNCRP forum because it's that brand machine... but CNCRP folks are generally woodworkers. So figured folks here might be interested as well for the metal aspect. I finally got everything in a state that it could make chips (although still have a lot of work to do) and filmed some tests to work out speeds/feeds. Video in that thread :)

Overall I'm super happy with how it is performing. Hit ~8in2 MRR without bogging down the spindle too much. Main limiting factor seems to be the sheer weight of the machine; at high feeds the acceleration/deceleration throws the whole table and machine around, which will affect tolerances. The machine itself weighs a few hundred pounds - maybe 400ish after adding vise and spindle? - and the table is a welded frame I knocked together, so probably another 100-200lb. So not a lot of mass in general to damp fast accelerations.

But at slower feeds (<80ipm) it cooks along nicely with HSM toolpaths. Only tested with 1/4" end mills so far, planning on trying some larger end mills, flycutter, etc in the near future. Also going to try my luck with mild steel and see how it goes.

I was debating between the BP2x3 and "proper" mini VMCs like a Syil/Skyfire/Tormach or even Haas MiniMill. Ended up with the Avid system for a few reasons. I'm still in a prototype'y phase for things that I'm working on, and some parts may end up being plastic, so the larger work envelope was very appealing (really didn't want to get a VMC and then find out it was too small for the parts I need). The lower cost was certainly a plus, and by adding an ATC high speed spindle I felt I manage most tool paths even if they had to go a bit slower. Still need to do some tolerance checks but I think the BP2x3 will hold tolerances that I need at a reasonable feed rate.

We'll see if the choice pans out, but so far I'm pretty happy with how it's looking.

For fun, I did a little bit of spectrographic chatter analysis. More examples in the video, but here are some annotated charts from a prior run. By analyzing the audio spectrum, you can identify the harmonics of the spindle and the end mill flutes:

fft.jpg

And if you look at the spectrum over time you can identify various events, find examples of new chatter frequencies that show up when entering a cut, and even see the motor bogging down a little from the cut (because the main spindle frequencies decrease slightly when it enters the cut, which directly correlates to the rotational speed):

spectrogram.jpg

Still a lot of work left to do on the router:
  • Enclosure to contain chips, and reduce sound
  • Zero-speed ATC interlock wiring
  • Low-pressure fault sensor wiring
  • Tool rack and ATC macros
  • Flattening work table, and/or large fixture plate
  • Bolting down to the welded table to increase overall mass of machine
  • Toolsetter and wireless touch probe setup
