It's been about 10 years since I've used MasterCam.
I'm trying to create a machine origin at the corner of the stock and it's kicking my A$$!
Last software I used was CamWorks, no problem, pick the corner.
I'm wanting to use the lower left corner for XYZ zero. This must be a common practice but it's like a secret everywhere I look:

Could a defunct flatbed printer be repurposed into a CNC?

$

Hey all, We're a small sign and graphics company that owns a now defunct 5'x10 flatbed UV printer whose manufacturer has abandoned all service parts, ink and support.

Basically the thing is a big work table now, but it is sturdy as hell, has machined side rails that the printhead gantry runs on and all the internal electronics and motors to do an X and Y axis as well as some vertical movements. It has a built in vacuum system to hold down materials.

I have no idea if it is of any interest to any ambitious DIYers here and hate to see it just go to the scrap yard.

If anyone has any interest, feedback or ideas of a good use of this thing, I'm all ears.

problem haas mikron vf500 alarm 160 low voltage

Good Morning. I have a problem with a haas mikron vf500 from 1995. the machine whenever you turn on the servos and the voltage 160vdc arrives at the main board the alarm occurs and there is no possibility to remove it. if you open the doors the alarm with reset disappears. I close the doors and the alarm occurs again. I already controlled the voltage 160vdc and is always at 170vdc. I need to know where this alarm is controlled because from what I checked it looks like it's on the PCB card where the 160vdc comes in. I have no solution to the problem. I appreciate who can help me. thanks

AIO Garage Project

Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker - first time poster.
I built a small CNC about 4 years ago based on a Chinese 6040 frame, using parts (steppers, wiring and PSUs from old ATM machines) and used Mach3 and a cheap BOB for the controller

I enjoyed working on CNCs so much I quit ATMs and managed to get a job as a CNC technician - I now work fulltime on SCM and CMS 3-6 axis industrial machines.

I quickly lost interest in the limitations of the 6040 and sold it.
I've finally got around to designing my own machine. It is designed to fit in a single garage with a machining area of 1420x1420x200mm.
I wanted to make an all in one universal machine built rugged enough to be reliable and not have to spend most of my time making adjustments...
The machine will have 4 interchangeable heads - a 55Amp Plasma, 2.2kw spindle, 15w laser and an air scribe.

The thought of lead screws and skateboard bearings makes me cringe, so decided to go for 16mm ball screws and Hywin clone 20mm linear bearing rails.

The X axis will have a total of 4x20mm rails

I TIG welded the base from 50mm/3mm box section and have used 80x160mm aluminium extrusions for the X and Y axis rails.

I have finally got all the parts together and thought I'd post the build progress here and share the design/dxfs etc if anyone is interested.

Break away torque calculation of lock nut against rotating/acceleating bolts?

$

I have a Scenario where my lock nut is tightend using a prevailing torque of 14 Nm (as mentioned by the manufacturer) on to the rotor placed between bearings (But the tightening direction and the rotor rotating direction is same unfortunately). The lock nut is loosened after particular life cycle of usage as the rotor rotates with a acceleration of 1230 rad/sec and every time it starts, the sudden acceleration loosens the lock nut. Is there a simple approch to calculate a appropriate prevailing torque for this situation, so that the lock nut does not loosen up when the rotor starts accelerating towards it's max RPM of 9400 in 1 second?

I'm looking into one of FLA's 2'x3' FLA100 Kits. Their site says "IN STOCK", and "GUARANTEED TO SHIP NEXT DAY"...

Has anyone actually got a tracking # the next day?

I've heard HORROR stories about timelines and quality...but I also know forums are usually more geared towards vocalizing BAD, than GOOD.

.We are happy with progress so far, maybe fun will start when Sunny has gone to China! We have found working with Bodor very easy and out installation engineer Sunny has been very good and helpful. Hopefully we will be in production soon and get up to speed over the next week or two.

Budget CNC Mill under $2000?

Hello, I am new to the forum, so if I break any rules please let me know. A little about me I currently a college student(Major:Industrial engineering Minor: Manufacturing Engineering, and automation certification) and interning with a large company as an industrial engineer the last year. I have experience with manual and cnc lathes and mills, much nicer than I can afford, but am looking for a cnc mill that I can cut stainless around .001 accuracy. I want am taking 18 credit hours next semester, so a full time job is probably out of the question, but I was thinking that if I could do some milling jobs, pay off the machine, then I could make some extra cash during school. I have also considered going the fiber laser route, but not having much experience with lasers and their life I am a bit weary. Trying to keep the machine under $2000 not including tooling. Thanks!

Improved Antialiasing Levels from 4 to 7 (2x, 2xHQ, 4x, 4xHQ, 6x, 8x, 16x)
The graphic quality of the route and the virtual machine has been increased thanks to the increase in Antialiasing levels from 4 to 7.

Improved GCode languange
The G language has been extended to support ELSE in IF THEN decision blocks.
Now within a macro / sub you can access the value of the arguments using the named parameters:

Code:

G65 P1000 A10 B20 X30
...
M2

O1000
IF [# <_ args.A> GT 10] then ....

; or with standard FANUC access

IF [# 1 GT 10] then ...
M99

Added the command EXISTS [] to know if a named parameter is already in use.

Probe 3D Scanner changes
Various improvements in the 3D scanning / 3D Surface flatness area, such as increasing the sampled points along the scan axis.
This allows you to get more details and be able to do post-processing of the scan through the new panel
Static Data Analysis .

Scan

Post-scan panel

Filtered scan result

Through the panel of Static Data Analysis it is possible to open scans made in the past, view them and operate new filtering technologies that will be promptly added to further software development.
