Anyone out there have a Makino A55 with Fanuc Pro 3 control. What I would like to know is if during a tool change when the drawbar unclamps, I am getting an "ER-01" on the spindle drive. Have spoke with Fanuc and Makino tech support, but they were not able to help, wanted me to call in service. The machine would stop in the middle of the tool change with the PMC alarm of spindle orientation signal is OFF, but since then I have installed a new speed sensor on the back of the spindle. I still get the ER-01, but at this time the machine completes the tool change without stopping. Just can't figure out what is causing the ER-01, but maybe it has always been there, just didn't know it.

pure molybdenum sheet, milling and drilling
Hi all --
Mo has been discussed here a while back, but I thought I could get some job-specific insight. This is for my own lab, not manufacturing/production. So I have the time, but I do not have $$$$ to invest into this.
I need to make 5 parts out of pure Mo sheet, 3 mm thick. Each part is a rectangle 35x62 mm, with 40+ holes ranging in size from 1.25 mm to 2.0 mm. The 1.25 mm holes are then tapped 0-80. The parts are used as heat sinks in microscopy which experience excursions from -80C to +40C while epoxy-glued to borosilicate glass. The choice of Mo is due to corrosion resistance, low heat expansion, good conductivity, relatively low cost (compared to say Ta), and relatively ok machinnability. Tried Al, numerous SSs, Ta, Ti, Invar, W and none had all of the above properties in one material.
I just made one of these on a Sherline mill. The part came out OK, it took about 5 hrs, and I am not looking forward to repeating this for 4 more. So I am wondering if there is anything I can do better. I glued the original 3 mm 100 x 100 mmplate to a 10 mm flat Al plate, used RPMs and feeds I would normally for Steel and Ti. There was not much heat/smoke, just very fast wear of the drills and mills. Used TiN-coated centre drills for drilling holes and a 4mm 2-flute carbide endmill. No other drills b.c the part wast thin enough, and the centre drills went through. For 1 part, used up 10 drills and 3 mills. Tapping was OK b.c. the threads were shallow.
Any specific drill/mill brand recommendations? Special oil? Can these be laser-cut instead? Tried water jet (outsourced), it formed bubbles and delaminated. For now, I ordered a 2mm plate instead of 3 mm, just to make it a bit less epic.

Building a CNC router/mill for aluminum and light steel, looking for design critique.
I designed a small machine to mill aluminum and steel, and I designed it to be as cheap as possible. T8 leadscrews, SBR12 fully supported linear rods, nema17 steppers. I know it sounds WAY underbuilt for steel, but hear me out. The T8s are using compression anti-backlash nuts, and are SUPER solid. The rails are decent quality, not too long, and fully supported in steel bars cast into concrete. Each of the x and y axes has two nema 17s geared down. If thats not enough power I have provisions in place for two more per axis. I have a 1.25Kw spindle motor (RC car brushless motor) geared for a max RPM of 15K. Both the base and the X axis are going to be cast out of fiber reinforced concrete. I have attached a rendering below. Missing from the rendering are the leadscrew mechanisms, and the spindle and motor. Please give advice, this is my first CNC but not my first machine of this complexity.

Best drill for drilling pipe
Hi, I need to drill a series of 18mm holes through the side of 65nb heavy black pipe. In the past I have done small batches using an ordinary hss bit but my customer has just placed an order for 400 pieces, with 5 or 6 holes per piece.
My machine is an Hitachi VMC but does not have a 4th axis so I drill through both sides in one setup...any ideas on a better drill to speed up the process? Thanks

Need Help! PWM Output Voltage Drops from 100%
I am using Mach3 to control one of those cheap 500W Chinese spindles via a uc-100 and Gecko 540.
With the spindle disabled at the VFD I am getting 0 to 10 volts at pin 8, proportional to the spindle speed percentage as set in Mach3. Just like you would expect.
If the spindle is then enabled at the VFD, the output voltage drops to about 5.8 volts on pin 8, and the spindle runs at only about 70% speed even though Mach3 is set to 100%.
Now for really strange part.......
If I just take the tip of a screwdriver and just touch pin 7 on the Gecko, the voltage jumps up to 10v and the spindle speeds up to 100%. If i then stop touching pin 7 the voltage drops to about 9 volts.
Similarly, If I touch pin 8 with the screwdriver, the voltage drops to about 2 volts, and returns to about 5.8 when I stop touching it.
The spindle works fine when controlled locally at the VFD over it's entire speed range, so motor loading doesn't seem to be the problem. I have also verified that all connections are tight and the local speed control pot on the VFD is disconnected when hooked up the Gecko. Changing the settings on the Spindle Pulley in Mach3 makes no difference.
I sure would appreciate any suggestions relative to the source of the problem and the means to fix it!

Need Help! bobcad v 31
now that i have v31 installed i can no longer back plot with predator. i have a pro licence with edit nc but the verification is now grayed out. before today it was functioning. what hell?

DNC Problem
I'm trying to drip feed a large program to a Fadal 6030 and it is stopping part way thru. At N100100 the machine just stops and the spindle and coolant remain on. The only error code that I have seen is on the Cimco transmission status screen and it shows <EOT> on the last visible line. The last line # transmitted is 13 lines past where the machine actually stopped. The Fadal screen goes back to "home" and Cimco appears to still be trying to send the rest of the program.
I deleted the first part of the program up to the current tool change and restarted. It stopped again on the same line number.
I read thru some posts here and have since ran the diagnostics with the dummy plug, checked the cables and baud rates. Restarted machine and it again stopped at the same line.
I then renumbered the shortened program and it went further in the program (about 400 lines more) and stopped at N14580. The initial program is 11626 lines long (numbered by 10) and the shortened program is 6736 lines.
I programmed it on MasterCam 2018 and use Cimco 8 to transfer it to the Fadal.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
