Build Thread 7x10 Mini Lathe to CNC 5 Axis

So I've gotten far enough in the design stage that I'd like to start sharing my build. I've got the lathe itself and the basic CNC components. I've managed to install LinuxCNC and get the motors moving. Tomorrow I start hopefully bolting some components on.

I'll start with a rendering

Far from finished with the design but far enough along to start on the Z axis. Plan right now is to keep it as cheap as possible. I'll start by 3D printing all the custom components and make them in aluminum, steel or cast iron when I'm happy with them.

Some bullet points:
-For the motors I'm starting with a chinese ebay special 3 axis nema 23 kit and BOB.
-16mm z & y axis screws and a 12mm x. Looks like I could fit a 16mm in the x axis as well so may change my mind.
-Re-designing the top slide to a T-slot bed and adding tapered gibs to the x and z axis.
-Using MGN rails on the Y axis for simplicity
-Have a worm gear reduction modeled in the back of the Y axis currently to do A axis rotation. They can be found for cheap from China.
-Not sure what I'll use for a spindle. Currently have a cheap chinese spindle in the model. Was trying to find maybe a cheap lathe live tool block. Or make my own?
-Plan on mounting a servo motor for the spindle and having a couple pulley options for it but think I've bitten off a good amount to work on for now.

That's a start, hope to update more soon as I make progress!

Work offsets shift on sinumerik 828D

Hi. I'm trying to shift the work offset in a program. I have tried using g10 g50 g52 g92 but none of them are supported by the controller. What else can I try? I guess I could change the machine variables directly, but this seems risky. Or I can add an x, y and z variable to all the coordinates in the program, but that is very tedious and I rather not. Any ideas? Thanks.

Drip Feed / DNC? --- Conquest T42 with Fanuc 18T controller

I have a Hardinge Conquest T42 with Fanuc 18T controller. There is clearly no switch to put it into tape mode. Is there soft key for tape mode?

I have the RS-232 hooked up to a Titan USB, which works great for moving files. I now have some programs that I can't get to run because they are too large.

I thought I had seen "tape" somewhere on one of the control soft keys. I'm certain I have seen "punch" for outputting files. There must be a way to get this thing into tape mode. What's the scoop???

Thanks!

I was looking for a tool to repair PST file when I came across the Recovee PST Repair software which worked out for me. It let me save the recovered data into PST file easily. This software is very effective in recovering and saving mailbox data from OST to PST file.

Yesterday I set up a new job that was supposed to get an 8-32 hole tapped 5/8 deep and wouldn’t ya know it, after all the smack I written about tapping small holes, I was using a spiral flute cutting tap and I busted the dang tap on the first hole. I hadn’t broken a tap in 6 or 7 years before that.

I switched to a form tap and ran the rest of the 125 piece order with no problem.

Is anyone familiar with building machine setup files for simulation in Esprit? I'm building a Template file for my CNC router and not sure how to get the Y axis to move in Y with the head. It moves in X but should only move in Y.. I've got Z & X models in the Head area, the Y axis in the table area and the stationary base in the Base area but that's not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Meldas M320V with a Hartford HV-35

Hello,

A couple of months ago I bought a used Hartfort HV-35 with a Mitsubischi Meldas M320V control.
The milling machine has stood still for a couple of years.
After I installed the Hartford and turn on the power there were a couple of error’s.
The machine has not lost its parameters only a couple of PLC standard’s.
The drive was broken and I send it away for repair.
Now the machine will start up and can make some move’s, the tool changer works perfectly.
It will mill straight lines but when I try to make round corners the error “ P70 ARC ERROR “ comes up.
I made a straight forward program to mill a square of 30x30mm and I ad later the round corners of R=3mm, all with a mill ø6mm without radius compensation.
I need help to get me around the corner. What do I forget and are there some Parameters that can make the change.
I have all the original books and Parameter list’s but I can not find anything.
Please help.

CRP with Masso

Just starting tuning a new CRP 48x96 pro machine. I'm using Masso as the controller. As such, I cant use the CRP xml file for Mach 3. Masso needs to know is the amount of linear travel per motor rev. I'm using the NEMA 23 with 3/8" shaft. From the information I have, I think I'm looking at 1.1519 inches travel on x and y per rev. Can anyone familiar with the CRP R&P drive setup confirm? Thanks much!

Hello,

I'm a new member and i hope someone could help me or point me i the right direction.

I recently bought a used Optimum BF 46 Vario from 2007 fitted with stepper motors from optimum controlled by optimum controller IV.

I use UCCNC together with UC100 motion controller and Fusion 360 for CAD/CAM.

I´ve got the x,y,z axis to work but i don´t know how to connect the spindle to the controller IV and setup with UCCNC or if even is possible.

Is there anyone here with a Optimum mill that uses Controller IV or anyone who got a good guess.

Info on the optimum controller IV:

The Unit has:
1 X parallel ports named port 1 (25pin)
9 pin connection plug for a three axis point of origin
4 X slots for the stepper motor cards (I am using 3)
1 X relay port, potetial free relay output (8 outputs/pins)

Pin assignments for the DB 25 male is
Pin Application Description
1 RELAY Switch output eg (motor on)
2 Direction X axis
3 Cycle X axis
4 Direction Y axis
5 Cycle Y axis
6 Direction Z axis
7 Cycle Z axis
8 4th Axis
9 4th Axis
10 Free
11 References switch Z
12 References switch Y
13 References switch X
14 RELAY Output eg coolant
15 Reference switch 4th axis
16 - 24 Free
25 OV DC, Earthing

The 9 pin connection pins are as follows for the reference switches
1 X1 Machine point of origin port 1 X Axis
2 Y1 Machine point of origin port 1 Y Axis
3 Z1 Machine point of origin port 1 Z Axis
4 ROUND TABLE
5 +12V DC
6 X2 Machine point of origin port 2 X Axis
7 Y2 Machine point of origin port 2 Y Axis
8 Z2 Machine point of origin port 2 Z Axis
9 OV DC

I would like to controll the spindle speed, direction and on/off from within UCCNC.
