I know the resolver for the Z axis needs to be rotated for spindle / tool changer alignment , but does the X or Y axis resolvers need any form of alignment after a new one is installed?

Need Help! can't get access to resolver on X axis motor

voltages test find for the x axis from the side panel. Pull the J2 bullet connector out and measured sightly over 1.7V

I am about to remove the X axis resolver, but is seems to have a shield over the whole motor. Does this shield come off by itself or I need to take the whole motor off?

Code for running 3 stepper motors with raspberry pi

Hi,
I wan to run 3 stepper motors with raspberry pi and:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/5x-DRV8825-...53.m2749.l2649
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SALE-Wantai...53.m2749.l2649

Its a special CNC-machine so I cant use some CNC-software + I want to learn how to program. I cant find any example how to write the code in python, so i ask anyone here if they know any example?

As I understand the drivers has auto sequence for the motors so I dont need to program that. If I can get the answer to write the code for 1 full turn for 3 motors at the same time I think I can figure out the rest.

Thanks!

Newbie Request for benchtop CNC mill recommendation

You experts have probably heard this question a 100 times so if you can even point me to an existing thread, I'd thank you a million times. My last post asking this question was 9 years ago (and I didn't buy at that time). I've seen the Novakon and Syil offerings from there but that's maybe old now. Any new help would be greatly appreciated.

My conservative needs:

1. Ready to use (not a build)
2. AXIS: 3-axis
3. CNC: Full CNC (as advance control as possible, e.g., even spindle speed control via software)
4. MATERIAL: Mostly aluminum but maybe sometimes mild steel (even at slower cutting speeds)
5. SPINDLE SPEED: ~ 10,000 or so (because I need to be able to use small end mills for micromachining)
6. MOTOR HP: Around 0.5HP.
7. WORK ENVELOP: Min. approx. X=7", Y=5", Z=4"
8. MACHINING ACCURACY: 0.001" or better
9.SIZE: Around 48"W x 36"D x 72"H so it might fit in my garage with other equipment
10. OPTIONS: Later possibility of adding automatic tool changer and 4th axis
11. ADDITIONAL PREFERENCES IF POSSIBLE:
- BLDC motor
- Servo system (feedback) on XYZ motors
- Ball bearing where there's an option to keep low backlash

My background:

12. BUDGET: Initial (immediate) around $10,000 but could stretch it to $15K. With options later, could go to $20K
13. AGE: 59M
14. EDU/SKILLS: Electrical & software engineer, R&D experience in medical instruments design, with some mechanical fabrication experience (by hand, getting it done through shops, just learning Solidworks/3D modeling

15. PURPOSE OF THIS CNC MILL: Low usage prototyping work for testing new R&D ideas. At my age, it seems more economical (time and money wise) to invest in a hassle-free CNC mill (and maybe a similar lathe later if needed) where I can dump my 3D designs to automatic machines to get them fabbed rather than do a lot manually or get them repeatedly fabbed outside.

Thank you for reading .... (I'll try posting on other forums if I don't get responses here as I know your time is precious and you already answer so many questions.)

Mcam 9.1 w/ GRBL

So I converted my bench top mill to cnc and I got everything working. Heres the issue, I have mastercam 9.1 but cant find the post to make it work with GRBL. I downloaded fusion 360 and that works but I know how to use mastercam 9.1 pretty damn well and not so much the fusion software. I also have many many MANY files already written in mastercam from years ago that I would rather not have to redo in fusion. Does anyone anywhere know where I can find the post to make this work? The re-seller has nothing for me, and master cam corporate couldn't help. Yes I know 9.1 is pretty old, however it still work pretty well for me. Thanks for any help any can offer.

Any way to manually turn on G0043.5 / DNCI - its not in my ladder but *is* in PMC

Hi,

I have an older lathe with FANUC 21-T system DE02 0012, I am looking for a way to 'force' or 'turn on' G0043.5 (DNCI), it is in my PMC but there is no ladder logic to turn it on (I don't have a 'tape mode' switch).

As you may know, above PMC status bit is required to be 'on' for tape mode soft key to appear in AUTO mode... So my PMC has the bit, but the machine builder didn't put anything in the ladder to allow it to turn on.

There must be a way to trick this bit to be 'on', even temporarily, no ?

I've downloaded the ladder and the PMC status etc. via RS232 so even if I needed to make a ladder mod, I'd be willing, but isn't there a way to just turn on that status bit, even if its just while the machine is on (and then lost at power off ?)

Thanks

How Portable Fiber Laser Marking Machine Benefits the Automobile Industry?

Fiber laser marking machines use a series of electric-laser light covert parts to focus light into a powerful laser. The laser helps to focus the light beam down into a fine point that can be less than a millimeter wide according to the machine. The focusing also helps to control the depth at which the mark is created, so that even delicate products can be marked with something permanent without damaging them.

Need Help! Need pinout for Prolight 3000 lathe turret cable

$

I have recently purchased a turret for my Prolight 3000 lathe. It didn't originally come with one, so I don't have the cable to connect it to the control box. The turret is from a parted-out Prolight, so I do know it's the right one for the machine. The rest of the lathe is working fine on the original control and software, I just need the cable. I contacted Intelitek, but got no response, so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I figure I can make my own cable but I need to know the pinout. If you have a late 90's Prolight 3000 with the factory turret, can you please check the cable and post the pinout? The cable I am looking for has a round 8-pin connector on the one end, and a D9 connector on the other end. I need to know which pin on one end goes to which pin on the other end. I can source the connectors and make the cable, unless someone has an old one lying around they don't need any more... :) I'd rather buy it than make it, but I can make it if necessary.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Looking for info on buildyourcnc.com board

As the title says, I'm looking for information on a CNC USB board that was sold by buildyourcnc.com. I contacted them and they said it was built using the DIY info in the PlanetCNC web site and they sold it until PlanetCNC stopped supporting the CNC USB software in favor of the TNG software. It came with a copy of the email from Planet CNC that has the software key. buildyourcnc.com no longer sells or supports this board. It appears to work and most outputs are marked on the PCB but the jog header pinout is not shown. I checked the DIY info on the Planet CNC website and the number of pins is different on their info from the header on the PCB. I'm hoping that someone might have some documentation on this board that they could share.

Thanks - Dan

CNC WaterJet-Are holding tabs required?

Hi,

I would like to get some Aluminium, 10mm thick - 25mm diameter disks - with an 8mm diameter center hole. So a flat washer in other words.

Will holding tabs be required for the cut?

I am trying to save on manual work in grinding the tabs down. Plus I thought it might be the same as as laser CNC cutting where tabs aren't required.

Thanks for advance,
Angus

Shizouka B-3V w/ Fanuc OM - ATC arm won't move after crash

$

Hi all,

I have a 1987 Shizouka B-3V with a Fanuc OM-A and 18-tool side-mount ATC. This machine seems to use a PLC-based tool changer instead of a O900x macro. I tested the tool changer and found it to complete a tool change properly without a tool in the spindle when I first got the machine.

Long story short, I chucked up a CAT40 tool in my BT40 machine like the moron that I am, did a tool change, and the arm smacked into the toolholder and the machine was stuck in the middle of a tool change.

I shut down the machine, backed off air pressure, and manually reset the arm. No visible damage, and when walking the arm manually through the cycles, the limit switches all actuate when they should - but when powered back up and trying to execute a toolchange, the machine won't move the arm.

When commanded with a Tx M06, it will rotate the carousel, index the spindle, lower the tool holder thingy, and then hang until the program is reset.

I can "cheat" the arm into moving by jumpering the appropriate solenoids, but the "manual" control panel (switches in the ATC junction box that are labelled with the different functions of the tool changer) won't actuate any of the arm functions (neutral, up/down, cw/ccw).

I've poked around in diagnostics and managed to make the problem worse. I found the diagnostic numbers that indicate the tool in the spindle (0503), the carousel position (0502), and the ADDR MEMO light (????, diag 0500) and tried manually editing them to see if there was some "tool change in progress" flag or something that could be kicked back to normal. No joy, and despite changing them back to there original values, the ONLY tool changer functionality that works now is manually indexing the tool changer carousel using the aforementioned manual control panel. So uh, that's pretty sweet.

Any suggestions for next troubleshooting steps are very welcome.

Thanks,

Andrew

Looking at the top 30mm thick section lots of threaded (commonly 9/16unf) ports around the perimeter

Looking for a machine recommendation to index to each hole and turn the ports

Considering we're going down to a 3mm hole we've got high spindle speed so need the part tightly balanced

Any suggestions?

OBD2 Scanners

I willing to develop a car diagnosis software(obd2 scanners). But, need idea about manufacturing. How to deal with this?
To get a better idea you can check obd2 scanners list. I am on the way to develop this kind product. It's a software base product.
Thus, it is little bit hard to manage and go to a production step. You cannot deal this with a basic thinking. Because, it's include coding and pattern for it. I need to develop a powerful scanner that can competitive current market.
I am good with coding But, not good as manufacturing process. It's a startup project.

A how to do this question...

I'm going to cut a box to hold two of the pens that I've turned. I need the lip of the lid to fit over the bottom. Obviously I can't make the outside of the bottom and the inside lip of the top the same dimension as they likely won't fit together. My question is how much extra dimension should I allow for the top lip so that the top will be snug, but will easily fit? Not sure of the wood that I'm going to use for the box, but it will be wood.

Tnx!!!

I am trying to get the toolpath for cutting an 80% lower for myself. I have the model in Fusion but just can't understand why using a 3/8 endmill wont generate a toolbath but if i go smaller it will. The pocket should let a 3/8" cutter in. Id there anybody that has done this can help me get started.

I have to make turret reference, it's on Mitsubishi MRJ2S-100A servodriver, turret have absolute encoder so there's battery for hold on memory of zero position.
But battery was broken, and i have alarm at mitsubishi AL.90 which means "Home position return incomplete".
Anyone know maybe how to make reference of turret at this machine?

Thank you and best rewards!
