Y-Axis

$

Hi Everyone, I am new to this site.

I am from Bronkhorstspruit, South Africa (Yes; it is on Google maps!)

I have my CNC machine since 2008 but now I have a strange phenomenon.

I have an E-Z router running Mach 3 and this is my problem of late. During the cut the Y-axis will all of a sudden go for a “Walk-about” in its own direction.

When I stop the machine and Reference All Home, the Z and X axis reference fine BUT the Y axis move away from the home position. Instead of coming back to the left rear position it is simply moving away down the Y axis.

I replaced the 25-pin parallel cable, replaced the Y axis limit switch, replaced the connector blocks on both the Y axis stepper motors, to no avail. I contacted E Z Router in Texas but they do not seem to have an answer for me.

Anyone have a suggestion of what may be the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Joz

Hello
Hope someone can point me in the right direction.
I am currently looking for a small machine to make ADA approved signs. Must be able to do braille.
None of the signs are over 12"x12". This will be for personal use for our security company. We will only be making 100 signs a month give or take.

Thanks

Newbie still on the fence for uccnc vs mach3

Building my own small cnc (about 650mm X 450mm) and trying to decide between the 2. So far the general consensus is that guys prefer uccnc and think it's easier to use for a beginner. I'm 99% sure I want to go uccnc, but there's one hang up I have. When searching for tutorial videos, they are endless for mach3 and not common at all for uccnc. For example if I want to search for something specific like how to setup dual screw/ dual stepper for X using a slave on uccnc, I can't really find specifics like how to set it up to calibrate squareness with 2 home switches. Much more info available for mach3. Should I be worried about this? Or should I just trust that I can rely on you guys to help me out with uccnc when needed? So far my experience on this forum has been great. Plenty of experienced guys willing to help. I think I would be OK even with the lack of tutorials for uccnc, but I'm still open to suggestions and opinions on one vs the other. If it makes much difference, I'll be running a g540 and most likely a uc100. Possibly skip the uc100 if I go mach3 to keep price down.

Any advice is appreciated!

Trumf (Baumueller) BUM60S

Hi to everyone!

Recently I've got to repair a Trumf BUM60S, besides the exploded condensers and defective IGBT modul I'm encountering a problem at the internal power supply module. There is a smd resistor nearby the chopper transformer and the C110 electrolyte condenser (220uF/25V), actually between the transformer and the condenser. The problem is that the resistor is burned, the PCB also and I cannot measure what could be the initial value of it.
Somebody does have access to the schematic diagram to tell me what is the value of the resistor?
Regards.

MAZAK SUPER QUICK TURN 10M unknown NC alarm

I have a 1994 MAZAK Super Quick Turn 10M that will not move from start up. Machine was running great a few weeks ago but now it is locked up completely. NC alm light at front panel is on. No other alarms anywhere. T-32-3 control screens are locked up as well. Could this machine have lost it parameters due to sitting for a few weeks? If so how do I check that? Back up battery shows 3.7v. PLEASE HELP as I am lost with this. I am in the deep south west of Missouri. Thanks.

Newbie starting DIY table 4' x 8' and plan on a side rotary axis

Being new I hope I am in the right forum section, if not "sorry" please direct.
I've been researching info for months now, and of course have many questions, but will only ask one at a time as I have filling other ones will get answered with each one I ask.

My question is: Can I use a [SINGLE] ball screw on my Y axis 9' I plan on using a rotating ball nut ($$$ ouch) and fixed screw.
going to use steel for the frame 2x6 .25 box for rail support found a place to have them milled flat $200
4x4 .25 for legs and 2x2 .125 for table and any bracing needed.
my gantry I want to use aluminum, I do have someone that can weld aluminum. I want it to cantilever over one side for my rotary axis like a (Camaster)

No drawings yet as this is going to greatly affect my design. as the bottom of gantry needs to be attached under table [which should make it more stable] if I can use one screw.
yes I do have concerns (why I'm asking) and i hope there wrong as I would like to be able to do this.

Enroute with AXYZ Series 8012 Router

We are a sign shop here in NC. I am the Senior CAD Designer trying to do a little research. I am a CAD guy not generally a CAM guy, so please bear with me and my little understanding of the matter.

We have an AXYZ Series 8012 router that does the bulk of our cutting and a Multi-Cam across the street in that does the rest. The Multi-Cam uses Enroute (We are on version 5.1). The AXYZ Series 8012 uses Toolpath for Windows which is a TERRIBLE and slow method compared to the Enroute enabled machine. We currently do not have a service contract with AXYZ, so they will not answer a single question. Currently I just use Enroute to process the DXF to import into Toolpath and hate that method.

All I want to know is...can I use Enroute to directly run the AXYZ Series 8012? Or do I have to use it to solely generate the NC Code and then bring that into Toolpath? Is all I need is a post processor to help with the matter?

Please help! PM or answer here!

Hi, I recently acquire a Fadal 4020HT with side dual arm tool changer. Comparing this machine with my exisiting Fadal 3020HT with a side DATC as well, the newly acquired 4020 tool change moves a lot faster but slams on the tool. Is there a way to slow down the tool change and adjust the arm? Thanks

Who made the linear bearings for older MotionMaster machines? I need to buy some!

I have the linear guide rails off an older MotionMaster machine that was scrapped a few years back. The machine was huge: sliding table, fixed gantry built of 12x12x1/2" HSS. I want to use the rails to add a fourth axis to another machine but did not get any bearings; the machine had been stripped before scrapping.

Can anyone tell me who made the linear rails for the older MotionMaster machines? I've talked to the successor company, but the guy I spoke to didn't know.

Thanks in advance and if anyone has decent used bearings I'm interested!

Doosan and Ellison Customer service?

I've been trying to get updates on some bugs we're trying to work out of our first Doosan machine, and I have been having trouble getting status from anyone. I e-mailed my Ellison application engineer 2 weeks ago- then talked to my sales person about a week ago, and I e-mailed Ellison service and received no reply. I tried the Ellison application guy again, I've called people at corporate, e-mailed people at corporate, and I'm just striking out. I don't get paid to do logistics, and I have to take time out of my work to work these issues, so working hard to pay people to close problems with equipment is frustrating.

My last 6-7 communication attempts have had no response.

I was looking at the Doosan line like a potential place to do future machine tool business, but our Yama Seiki machines on the floor and our Hurco machine, seem to have potentially more functional product support. I'd stop short of saying awesome about Mitsubishi because their support is great but the most expensive of all 4 brands. We weren't really happy with Yama Seiki local dealer support which is poor in our area unless Concept Tool has picked up that line in which case it might be improving (I don't have a lot of experience with Concept Tool), and Ellison sales people had a lot of confidence in Ellison product support, so that projection of confidence seemed to imply we would have a great experience with Doosan.

Corporate is the brains in my solution process, and they are probably understaffed, over-taxed, and I'm a small unimportant problem, but that's hurting the outlook for a future with Doosan.

We have other local options,Nakamura through local Concept tool, or locally US headquartered options DMG Mori, Mazak, and Okuma seem to be well supported in our area. I was hoping we would see this get functional so we could stop playing brand tag.

Am I doing this wrong? I'm putting in Ellison service e-mails, I'm calling Doosan people who are supposed to be the people that would be working on this issue, I'm at 2 weeks on initial communication with no return contact.

For you Ellison users, what are common lead times for communication and problem resolution?

Problem No Post Processor for THC301?

$

I run SheetCam with Mach3 and a THC301 made by Texas MicroCircuits. Use a machine torch with a scriber plate marker. Thermal Dynamics A60.

Attached is a text file of the Post Processor file I am using.

This Post Processor is "Designed for use with Mach3 and CandCNC MP1000-THC and Floating head Touch-n-Go\n"

Has anyone made a Post Processor file specifically for the THC301?

The reason I want to know is that after a lot of troubleshooting with "Arc OK" issues, I'm hoping find an optimum configuration for my machine. I can cut a part or two without much trouble. But when I have a nest of parts or a part with multiple pierces, my machine will stop upon making a new pierce. The torch remains on but the machine won't advance, no "Arc OK" signal.

Running SheetCam V 4.0.10 on my machine. (I've looked at version 6.0.23 and it still did not have a PP for THC301)

Should I continue down this path, or is the Post Processor file a non-issue for my "Arc OK" issues?

Thanks for reading,
Dan

NEW DIY CNC WOOD ROUTER SPINDLE HOOKUP

$

Hello Everyone,
First time here. I have been building a new CNC wood router for my home shop. It is approx. 5' by 8.5' I have used rack and pinion on X and Y axis's and a ballscrew on the Z axis. All axis's are moved by Teknic Clearpath SD motors. The spindle is a UGRA air cooled spindle motor with a DELTA M vfd. I am using Windows 7 PRO, MACH 3 and a C23 board with smoothstepper with Ethernet connection.
Now for my trouble....I cannot figure out the hookup for the VFD to run the spindle. All parameters at set in the VFD for using 0-10 volt AVI and GRD. The NO relay for MO and GRD, However I never get the 0-10 volt out of the board to command the VFD. I have Configured the Mach 3 Ports and Pins / Sindle setup to Output #1 for both M3 and M4. Also have turned on the outputs for port 1 and pins 14 (0-10 volt output pin) and 16 (NO relay) but no output out of the board to run the VFD. I have tried everything. I really need some help here. Thank You very much in advance.
