DM4400M Spindle motor and drive questions

$

First, I have a DM4400. It has the Servo Dynamics SD303 amp and the SEM DC Brush spindle motor. I have both running fine under Flashcut CNC and a small board I made.
I'm pondering replacing both with the Mitsubishi motor and drive similar to the later model DM4400M which had the Mitsubishi Meldas M3 control.

What I am hoping for is someone with a DM440M that can take a picture of:
The spindle motor label
The spindle motor drive label
If feasible the mount on the head of the DM4400 that the motor bolts to.

Post here for others if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Looking for good CNC routing reference

$

So now that I have built my first CNC router system, I find myself on a pretty steep learning curve to figure out how to get the most out of it. Making sawdust is pretty easy, but having a really nice useful part at the end is a little tougher. There is alot of really great information on CNCZone, but there was also alot of confusion. Its difficult to separate the good from the bad sometimes.

I have a ton of questions that range from very basic (What sort of things should go on a "checklist" before I press the START button for routing a new part? What operations should I perform on the CNC vs. traditional woodworking machines) to more nuanced (What are the differences between different tool path strategies and when should I choose different ones? How do I determine the trade-off between tool path time and surface finish?). I could probably list twenty questions that have come up as I am starting to work on some of my first projects.

I don't mind making mistakes. In many ways it is the fastest way to learn, but I like to avoid "stupid" mistakes...the things that everybody knows are stupid or that could cause significant damage or injury. Is there a general reference guide to CNC routing anywhere where I can learn "how its really done?"

Thanks,
Robert

Need Help! SBR12 Linear Rails

$

Hello everyone,

I'm currently designing my CNC on a budget and got most of the parts, the only problem I have is that I have been reading lately that I should be using SBR16 minimum, even tho I'd already brought SBR12 off a friend, so came up with a possible solution.
so the x-axis is going to be 700mm long on the linear rails, and the y-axis is going to be a metre.

the machine will mainly be cutting wood carbon fibre and plastics but will occasionally be wanting to cut aluminium too

the possible solution is too double up on the SBR12 as I have 4 700mm for x-axis and two 1000mm for y-axis upping to 4 if needed.

best method for interfacing linear square rail to 80/20 framing?

Im in the design stage of my diy machine and trying to decide on the best method for attaching my 20mm square linear rail to extruded aluminum. Im still not 100% clear on the bolt size for attaching my rails since i havent received it yet. The online spec sheet lists an m5 bolt, but the technical drawing shows a 6mm hole. Anyway, im wondering if its sufficient to bolt the rail directly to the extrude, or is it better to sandwich an aluminum plate in between. If its an m6 bolt, i can use the 50mm x 100mm extrude which has slightly over 6mm slots in it, so i feel that without an aluminum plate in between, it should have a pretty stable mount directly to the frame with a bolt into the t-nut inside the frame. Has anybody had success with this method? Or is it much better to have a flat plate in between the frame and rail? Thanks

ACCTEK CNC Website Down?

Anyone out there been able to access their website? www.acctekcnc.com

I've tried for 2 days and all I can get is an "unable to connect" error.

I have one of their routers and am now looking for a small "hobbyist" NC Laser Engraver. Wanted to see what they had but guess I'll need to look at something else.

Starting down the CNC rabbit hole-Techno Isel

Hi all. Long time hobby machinist making scale model gas engines. I did some horse trading for a 90's vintage Techno Isel gantry with 30"x22"x8" travel and a rotary table attachment. It has stepper motors on it and ancient Windows 98 boards. I want to get into CNC so I figured this would be a good place to start. My plan is to upgrade to a Gecko 540 controller, new steppers and Mach 3/4 control software. Plan is to use it for aluminum, wood for patterns and plastics. I have a lot to learn and have been watching a lot of YouTube videos. I'm pretty compute savvy so no issues there...just need to come up the learning curve. In the next few weeks the plan is to make a sturdy frame to sit the gantry on and hold the control cabinet and computer. I have a house vac system at the ready for chip removal. Looking to size the steppers if I need 300 or 600 in-oz torque. So this is just an intro post and I'll add to it or new threads as the project develops. Thanks, Myrickman.

Need Help! Laser Cutting a Monogram

I am new to laser cutting and engraving and recently received a Boss LS3655. We have just recently began listing our new items and one of the first requests we have obtained is for 24" wooden monogram, using 1/2 Birch. When I set this up in Rdworksv8 I am showing a time of approximately 1:30hrs. Is this correct? How do I speed this up? I see all kinds of shops selling these, and wouldn't think they're spending an hour or more on one item that is going to profit them less than $15.

Need Help! I am a newbie and I cannot get my cheap CNC to work

Purchased Cheap Chinese CNC 3020T to do some light scrolling in wood, so as I was reading the different forums here and else where I was bombarded with the negativity of the pirated software they used, rather then have problems later on I purchased the necessary parts to assemble my own controller and purchased the LIC. I assembled the controller to the T and even took it back apart and reassembled the controller to eliminate any what if and did I. Now when I power up my motors X and Y make a high speed whining noise and do not move the platform BUT sometimes it will move the X and Y but for a very short time and it gives the impression that the threads are binding (they are not) . The Z access goes up and down just fine. The program is MK3/4 CNC-USB I installed the program as told then opened the program and using the direction arrows on the bottom left the X will only move a small amount and is very jerky like binding and same with the y axis here is a link to a video on you tube I am about ready to go back to the chinese controller as it works.

bug in PathPilot 1.9.13

$

The Oh-numbers of a gCode program must be unique, and PathPilot will not accept code like
Code:

o 100 repeat [5]
    G00 X1
    G00 X2
o 100 endrepeat
o 100 if [#1 GT #2]
    G00 X3
o 100 endif

If the same Oh-number is used in two different filed subroutines, one might expect either that
  • their scopes would be construed as limited to their respective files, so the authors of the two subroutines would have no obligation to coordinate their work, or
  • PathPilot would complain about the conflict.

In fact, neither of these happens. What seems to happen (I have not done extensive testing to characterize the bug, but I think this is right) is that the second appearance of the Oh-number is ignored, and references to that Oh-number will be taken to refer to its appearance in the subroutine called earlier.

For example, if the calling program is
Code:

o <first> call
o <second> call
M30

and the two subroutines are
Code:

o <first> sub
    (msg, first)
    M98 P100
o <first> endsub
    o 100  (internal subroutine)
        (msg, first)
        M99 (return to caller)

and
Code:

o <second> sub
    (msg, second)
    M98 P100
o <second> endsub
    o 100  (internal subroutine)
        (msg, second)
        M99 (return to caller)

then the output is not first-first-second-second. Instead, it is first-first-second-first.

problem in my hurco vm1

my hurco vm1 machine model 2007

It was working well without any problems but last week when I running the machine in the morning I did not response so I opened the back door and noticed the following:

- When the power switch is turned on, all fans, including the power supply fan, operate for one second and then stop.- I checked the power supply with the help of an electronics technician and we found that the power supply had bad capacitors. We repaired it and tested the voltage outside it. It was correct and then we installed it.- After that, the situation changes slightly when all the cables are connected in correct place and the power switch is run. The same problem occurs, but when the motherboard(PEAK715-HT(LF) REV=D1) is removed, we find that the power supply is working and all the fans are working. Even the red and green lights started to work.- Of course, I concluded that the problem might have been caused by it and I checked it and found the capacitors damaged and changed but unfortunately did not notice any positive changeOnce the motherboard is installed and then rebooted, all fans start working for a second or two and then stop
But if the motherboard is removed and the power switch is turned on, life will run out again.Sorry for the lengthening but the question here is is it really possible to have a problem with my motherboard? Can I buy a new one from Hurco? How much will it be priced? Because I worry about the price. and if i buy it from china by ebay, for example, do i have problems with CMOS battery ?
thanks

I'm in the process of moving everything over to a new computer and would like some help. I'm using Surfcam 6 from 2011 or 2012 I think. While I don't have a huge library of tools, I would still like to copy the existing ones to the new computer so I don't have to recreate each one.

Mystery missing bit on planar finish path

$

Hi,
I can't understand why the planar finishing toolpaths keep missing a bit, the highest part of this slightly convex wing shape. I haven't had this problem before.

If I set the angle limit on the planar finish cut as zero, it's fine and it cuts the whole shape. But I want to be able to limit the angle so that I can finish the steeper sloped parts with Z finish cuts. But if I set any angle limit - 10, 30 degrees etc, it keeps skipping the same area, however it's almost level and should be included in the cut area.

I've tried lifting the clipping plane, and also adding Z height to the madcam box, but neither of these fixes it.

Any ideas? All help very much appreciated! I'm no expert but I've used Madcam for this sort of thing quite a bit and haven't had this problem before.

Thanks,
Andrew
