Hi all, new guy here. I was hoping to find someone in Utah, or surrounding area that would be willing to show off their machine before I pull the trigger. I would just like to see one in person before making the investment.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, this may be a dumb question but, I have a Biesse Rover B 7.4 Ft. And I just got a postprocessor from Bobcad for it. The post out puts the file as NC and the machine reads ISO and BPP. So I was wondering how do i upload a NC file and convert it to an ISO or BPP file so that my machine can read the file

Wanted : Gerber Dimension D200 Parts

Hello,

I purchased what I thought would be a complete Gerber Dimension D200 CNC ROuter.

It was not. Missing the controller and other essential Gerber parts.

I know a lot of people upgrade them with new motors and controls.

They get stripped of the proprietary parts.

Please let me know if you want to get rid of any parts.

Thanks.

I may consider an entire machine depending on distance and cost.

Thanks for reading.

Hey guys hope all is well.

Is there anyone in the Los Angeles area or SF valley that can help us set up our ATC spindle.

The manufacturer that sold us the ATC spindle had us buy a 2 way solenoid and we have no idea how to set this thing up.

I would also need help with the Tool Changing script.

We reside in Granada Hills. If anyone can help out that would greatly be appreciated.

Please email me at; szakarian23@gmail.com

Thank you,

4th Axis Toolpath Test

$

I created a 2" long, 1.5" diameter concave roller centered on the X axis as my first shot at a simple 4th axis test:

I select the model and a 0.1" ball nose tool ... OK.

I select model stock ... OK

Then create a box region around the model to give the tool room to run. (No clipping planes defined.)

I set the X axis as the rotational axis:

When I try to generate tool paths, I get the error:

I did notice that setting the 4th axis direction also resets the region back to the size of the model ... I
had to set the region again before trying to gen the tool paths ... even doing that I still am doing something wrong and generating the same error.

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong here?

-------------------------------
If I don't select the stock or set the region, paths are generated, but the simulator doesn't have any stock to start milling from.

Appreciate any help!

(Rhino 3dm file zipped/attached)

Thanks!

zooming origin of Tool Path Display window

Is there a way to change the zooming origin of PathPilot's Tool Path Display ("TPD")? In other graphic programs I am familiar with, the center about which an image zooms in or out is determined by the position of the cursor as one scrolls the zoom. In this screenshot

all the action in the TPD window is in the lower right, and I expected that I could focus on this area by bringing the cursor into it and then zooming in. Instead, the zooming origin seems to be permanently fixed at the center of the TPD window, so zooming in takes the area of interest off the screen. It may there be bigger, but uselessly so.

Dragging this area can bring it to the center of the screen, but at the cost of changing its orientation in 3-space. What am I missing?

Precision Matthews PM-940M (and it begins)

I recently bought a 940M from Precision Matthews (with hardened ways), so far I am impressed. I will be converting it with the help and advice from a friend who knows far more than I.

I have been a conventional machinist type for 35-40yrs, but a hobbyist for the last 25yrs since I work outside the trade now.

Anyway, running the 940M thru the travels while cleaning the shipping grease and grime I found the travels to be different than actually advertised.......it was a pleasant surprise.

I am getting X= 33-1/4, Y 15, and Z 21-1/4, with 5.250 on the quill. Granted these are extreme numbers but X= at 32 Y at 14 and Z at 21 are safe everyday numbers, and far more than I will probably use.

I have a HF ZAY7032G that I have been using for the last 15yrs (and 2 (X) longitudinal travel nuts later) and I modified it to get 10" on the Y axis but the 17 on the Z was just to small hence the 940M purchase to convert.

Just wanted to chime in for those looking for a nice machine, you might want to check them out.

I will post a pic now and then as I go thru this if anyone is interested.

Before anyone asks, I made the base for the stand to sit on, it weighs 500lbs+ and the factory stand is about 300lbs, with the machine its about 1800lbs.

I don't like to hunch over when I work and don't do real large pieces, plus I want to use servos with possibly some fast rapids and don't want the inertia moving the machine, and the base just seemed a bit narrow.

I will be building an enclosure also.

KmotionCNC Error saving From Previous GCode Filenames

Howdy all,
I've recently took my laptop online and sneaky W10 did some updates... Yes, you've guessed it right. I'm having problems with it now.

So, my kflop hardware is all running. I can initialise the machine, home it, manual entry works all right, on screen jog buttons are fine...
The problem arrises as I type some gcode lines in to the G Code Edit Window. Every time I try to run the program, or change the file to another file from the 7 files on the right side menu I get the following error:
"
Error saving GCode file C:\KMotion433\GCode Programs\From Previous GCode Filenames

Use SaveAs to save to different directory or filename.
"

Have you guys experienced anything like this? Have you got the fix for the issue?
I would appreciate any help on this matter as I can't figure out what's wrong here. I suspect the problem to be originating from the W10 update.

Cheers

2d Dimension Laser Scanner

I need some help with a machine that would help my business, however I don't have a clear idea what would work. However I come with props and examples..

I make sporting goods and I get many requests to copy an existing model for customers. Now, I'm using painters tape, and calipers to mark the dimensions, calculate the radius and enter into my lathes software.

I came across a video of an implementation that I want to copy. I provide link to a video below. Its a custom build that uses a laser to record dimensions of a product, which is recorded in a cad file format, that a lathe can turn.

I'm looking for a cost efficient way to bring this about

  • Would it be possible to use a desktop cnc router table that 12x36x3-4" height clearance.
  • This unit will be outfitted with an interchangeable laser head(s) that scan bats and laser engrave bats.
  • Or a smaller table 3x36x3-4" for a single bat, without the laser engrave option.

Or another possibility is to mount scan head to my machines carriage ( ) and take dimension directly, similar to the video below..

https://1drv.ms/v/s!Ajo22thXj77-nZ5iBDKaBwZWgqlW2g this is a video file.

https://1drv.ms/i/s!Ajo22thXj77-nZ5kFzWgXNPyQig3QA this is a picture of the output. You will notice the measurements on the right side.

Any advice or pointer in the right direction will be helpful.. Thanks.

Tormach 440 bed issue

We just got a new tormach 440 mill and found the T nuts are to high to work on the mill bed. T nuts supplied by tormach. Is it a commom practice to have to modify all T nuts to fit mill? or is there a problem with the 440 mill bed we received? We also got a fixture plate from Saunders (quality product I was impressed) and hits T nuts are aslo high so I came to the conclusion its a mill bed issue.

CNC Will Not CUT Sloped Edge Modeled**

We are using a ShopBot 2-phase .5 degree/step CNC machine. The objects to be cut were originally created in Rhino. From the Rhino file, we exported STL files to set up cut settings in PartWorks.

The objects we are trying to cut are 22" x 22" x 2" foam board. The foam boards are to have a cut out in the center, either triangular or circular. The piece pictured in the first image is more circular. The edges of the cut out are modeled in Rhino to have a gradual 1/4" slope from the top to the bottom. The second image is a wireframe right side image of a a more triangular cut out. As you can see, there it is sloped. But when we cut the piece on the machine, the edges are not sloped. The bit simply goes straight down. Is there some setting we are missing? Or any other reason for why we are not seeing a slope?

How to turn on spindle via software?

$

I assembled my new 6040 engraver today and everything works with the exception that I can't get the PlanetCNC software to turn the spindle on/off. I can hear a relay clicking when I try to turn it on/off via software, but the spindle doesn't actually respond.

The spindle works fine using the manual control. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the "local" light is on. I'm able to bring up other PXX displays but have no idea what these are.

Could someone kindly direct me to a reference link? Maybe even give me short explanation as to how to use the local settings?

TIA
