Is there anyplace to find all the Haas tools for Inventor HSM? Where do i find haas tool holder dimensions? And finally can i use the bits in HSM from other brands?

Need Help! I need help making a replacement Y Axis Rail for my CNC Mogul router

$

Hello,

I've have had a CNC Mogul 4x8 foot CNC Router for several years. Unlike some others on here, I have had good luck with it. I have had no electrical or mechanical problems. It's been in a hackerspace environment its entire life too. But anyways...

As I said, it's a 4x8 foot beast. I want to make it smaller (keep the X 4 feet and make the Y axis 2 feet). I could cut the Y axis rails down but I'd never be able to go back to 8 feet, so that's out of the question. I'd like new, shorter, Y rails but as you probably know, CNC Mogul is no more. I've tried calling the old owner, Mike Stone, at a phone number I found on this forum but it's not connected here.

I called Phil at Gryphon CNC. The machines look similar but they are not compatible with each other. So the Gryphon Y axis rails can not be used with the CNC Mogul gantry.

So, I need to make my own rails. I'm fine with that. The aluminum extrusion is Makerslide. However, my problem is finding the correct Rack Gear and spacer.

Phil gave me a tip and said that he thinks the CNC Mogul Rack Gear was from SDP-SI. They have Metric and Inch plastic Rack Gears.
Metric - http://www.sdp-si.com/PDFS/Racks-and...ges-Metric.pdf
Inch - http://www.sdp-si.com/PDFS/Racks-and...auges-inch.pdf

This is what I observed from my CNC Mogul's rack:
Height - about 0.250 inches
Width - about 0.250 inches (6.24mm)
Measured Pitch - 7.5 TPI (10 teeth cover 33mm, or 1.3 inches)
Spacer under rack is about 0.080 inches thick, that's 2mm.
Rack Gear is Grey in color, implying it's Acetal per SDP-SI's catalog.

But the 7.5 TPI doesn't match an inch-based rack gear and the metric rack gears don't have a pitch, they have a 'module'. I looked into this and can not figure it out for 100% certainty.

Can anyone determine what size the CNC Mogul rack gear is?

A photo is attached showing how the parts are oriented.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Newbie A lot of questions...

To avoid opening a lot of threads for every single question, I ask a few questions that I will do to set up my machine in this only one thread.

First two questions:

1) I load the InitKStep3Axis.c file wich work fine with my stepper motors (no encoder, no feedback). I modify the chx-> pointer to Vel for adjust it to my motors (only this).
The problem: with these configuration the motion is in imperial mode (inches). I'm European and i need the metric mode (mm). What should I change?

2) The Reset signal (ex. Pin 4 JP4 - Aux Connector) is like all world microcontrollers? Simple pull-up it to 3.3V (with 10K resistor) and hold it at GND (push button) for reset?

Thank you for now!

New questions coming soon...

PEM Press inserts

Hello,

I am technically new here but I have been here many times as a source of good knowledge.

I have a customer who wants us to press 12 inserts into a 5051 aluminum plate that is .125" thick. about 100 plates per order. (PEM #'s FHS-0420-20 and FHS-032-10)

My question is what do people charge to do these operations?

I have an iron worker and a arbor press. Just looking at taking this part of the quote on and keeping this process
in house.

Any information on how to bid/charge this would be so helpful.

Thank you for reading

Need Help! Not getting any input from PC to CNC Router - UCCNC UC300ETH UB1

$

Hello everyone,

Some quick machine specs:

Control:

Software Side:
  • Windows 7 PC
  • The UC300ETH is communicating with the PC. I am able to ping it and everything is set up as per the UC300ETH manual.
  • UB1 profile downloaded for UCCNC from CNCRoom.com and configured as per the UB1 manual regarding I/O, Axis, Spindle, Charge Pump, etc..

Experienced Problems:
  • We are unable to jog the router using UCCNC. However, we are able to jog the easy servos manually via the Driver LED display.
  • We are getting the following RED fault codes in the diagnostics menu within UCCNC
  • Charge Pump1 - Flashing Red
  • PWM Spindle - Solid Red
  • All directional Axis pins are Offline

We commissioned a member here for assembly and wire up of all the electronic components. Attached are photos of the cabinet itself and the UB1 board with status LED lights. It seems that the issue we are currently experiencing is beyond the scope of the builder or we have not communicated the issue clearly.

We suspect that the reason for unresponsive UCCNC input is because the CP pin is not wired up hence the flashing fault in the UCCNC diagnostics menu.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Some sad news about a forum member & his machine is for sale

Hi all,

I have some sad news. Fcarpcarp, from this forum, has passed on. I'd started speaking with him several years ago when I was an engineer at Techno and he had some issues and needed help. He was a very intelligent, friendly, sharp fellow, and I always enjoyed speaking with him, and would, on many occasions, discuss things completely unrelated to CNC - just because he was a good guy to talk to.

His family is looking to sell a lot of his equipment, as it's occupying shop space. This includes his pristine LC+ 5x10, with toolchanger, vacuum table with pump and a special extended X axis+rotary axis on an outrigger.
In addition to being very well equipped, this machine was kept in meticulous shape thanks to his efforts and my occasional input.

If you're interested (serious offers only, please, they've already gotten plenty of people trying to buy it for 10k), please PM me or email me. Since we don't take commission on used equipment, the price won't be inflated unnecessarily by a middleman.

The machine is in Massachusetts.

Frank... you'll be missed.

Regards,
Eric

Sliding rails in manual benchtop lathe

$

Dear folks,

I own an HBM 450 which is a 250x450mm benchtop lathe (chinese obviously). I feel that the weakest part of the whole machine is the cross slide carriage. No matter how I adjust the gibs, I can not achieve a precise, smooth movement, at least not the precise I want it to be.

Because of that I am considering replacing the dovetail guides with HIWIN HGH 20HA sliding rails. It will require some machining in the existing components, but nothing too hard to do. My main question is....Have anyone walked this road before? How the final rigidity of the entire setup will be affected?..Better (I hope) or worse?

Thank you very much in advance.

how to get drawing for tool control foam machining

I would like to use closed cell foam with cut outs for my hand tools in the drawers of my tool trolley. What I can't figure out is the best way to get cad drawings of each tool for cnc machining of the foam. I could draw each one myself but I am not a cad expert and some of the tools are quite complex shapes (wera screwdriver handles for example), so it would take ages. I have searched online for cad drawings that already exist (from manufacturers etc.) with no luck. what i would like to do if possible, is scan each tool with a flatbed scanner and then in trace the outlines as a dxf. Is there software that can do this? r is there a better way to get what I need?
