Hello,
can anyone tell me what this plate behind the spindle mount is for? Why does it extend below the spindle mount?
Best regards,
Thore

Dan,
My target machine is an Okuma 4020 VMC.
I made a simple Rhino model to gen a test post to compare to another known workable post. After digging deep into both there were only two points that appear to come close in needing attention:
First, most of the current posts I have seen going to the Okuma use Inches Per Revolution with a specific G95 call up front. The ISO_G_Code.txt (attached) feeds are in Inches per Minute, but don't have a specific G94 code up front. Possibly G94 (IPM) is the default for this machine, but I would really like to get that specific code automatically in the generated as a point of safety as I want to make 100% absolutely sure that there is never a misinterpretation that the feed rate would be 30 Inches per Revolution. (saw that happen before with a FCAM bug-def not pretty).
Second, I would like to have the spindle home at the end of the post just before the M30. The command I would like to insert is G30P32.
I read through the ISO_G_Code.txt file to try to get a clue as to how these inserts might be done, but that didn't help me.
I am at ground zero for learning how to modify Post Processors for madCAM.
Can you point me to a resource where I can jump start my understanding for how to make these two mods or an example of how this is done so I can start up the learning curve and get out to the machine?
Thank you!
Best regards,
Bruce

First of all:
Hi, I'm new here!
I currently have a small DIY CNC mill running GRBL and DRV8825 stepper drivers, but I'm looking to upgrade to LinuxCNC.
At my university we have an electronics waste bin, and I was lucky enough to find two Mesa 5i20's in there. Unfortunately I don't own a computer with PCI ports, so I have no way to test them at the moment. I have some questions about it:
I see a lot of people using a 5i25 with daughter board. Am I right in assuming that the daughter board is only there to provide extra i/o?
Since the 5i20 has much more i/o, can I just use it without any extra hardware?
Like this: PC => 5i20 => DRV8825 => Stepper motors
And what about the spindle: It has a PWM input and an encoder output to measure the RPM. Can this be connected directly to the 5i20 (maybe with a transistor for level-shifting the PWM signal)?
Thanks!
EDIT: The 'similar threads' already answered my questions, weird that they didn't show up when I performed a search. Anyway, how do I delete this thread?

Hi, I'm looking at moving some of our cnc milling needs inhouse, I'm currently looking at purchasing a rather cheap Bridgeport interact for small production runs.
However, I can't find conclusive information that these machines will handle our files.
Most of the stuff we make consists of 20,000 lines of g code on 3 axis with lots of XY arcs. I'm used to just sending these files out to be made on newish HAAS. However for use on these machines I understand we are required to convert this g code to conversational code, which is easy apparently.
But then this is where I get confused, assuming the Bridgeport is setup toolwise, once the file is converted and loaded onto the machine via serial cable, will the Bridgeport be able to accept the file without issues? I struggle to understand that a 20+ year only machine will cope, but I'm happy to be wrong.

Hello to all members,
I'm a software developer who is extrapolating info from Fanuc CNC using MTConnect protocol, in particular I'm interested in retrieving blocks with comments (parenthesis) because I put a G4 command with specific information within parenthesis that can be then parsed and used server-side (we have a database sever-side).
I'm using the following adapter:
https://github.com/mtconnect/adapter
Dwell command example to wait 1 second and write the comment CMD001:
G4X1(CMD001)
With a Fanuc 16i CNC everything works as expected, I retrieve the comments from the blocks calling an installed agent (of course an adapter is installed too) and then parse them server-side.
However I'm having problems doing the same with Fanuc 30i / 31i / 32i CNCs because the comments for G4 are missing.
For instance G4X1(CMD001) is automatically changed to G4X1.
Seems almost like the default behaviour for Fanuc 30i / 31i / 32i is to skip the comments for G4 (maybe for optimization purpose?).
Does anyone know if there is a setting to enable comments / parenthesis for G4 command for Fanuc series 30i / 31i / 32i?
I'm really at a loss on why there is such a difference between Fanuc 16i and Fanuc 30i / 31i / 32i.
Any kind of help is really appreciated.

Hello,
I am using Chinese Laser cutting/engraving machine for almost half a year. Usually I'm working with plywood 4 mm and using AutoCAD vector models. Some time ago it started engrave very badly. It looks like there is a problem when engraving objects, because engraving is always shifted to the right but bigger problem appears when engraving small, thin line objects or text. I have to mention that alignment is ok and everything is fine with cutting. Please help to indicate where is the problem - settings/parameters, firmware/software, where else?

Has anyone seen or know where to get CNC router bits for cutting and shaping Sea Dek? It's a specialty foam used on bots.
Thanks!

Hi,
On one of my lasers the pulse function has stopped working - I press the button on the control panel - I get the beep - but no pulse fireing from the laser!! Weird!
Everything else working as normal!
Need to fix it as it makes routine post cleaning/maintenance alignment pretty impossible!!
Anybody have any ideas?

So first off I'm fairly new to g-code and trying to start a new very small business. I've run into a situation that I don't know quite how to code.
At this point I've got code to run a single offset (G54) and using G52 and a sub program have it running several parts (8) at that location. Due to material constraints I can't reliably add more parts to this location so I'm looking to add more offsets (G54-G57?) and use the rest of the program G52 and sub to make a total of 32 parts at a run.
I've tried to search for a solution but all I can find is one or the other command and it's explanation. At this point I've considered extending the g52 lines to the other offsets but this gets a little tedious, another solution would be to call out the work offset and add the g52 to each of those (not sure if this would work as I have envisioned) but I'm thinking there is a better and cleaner way such as referencing the work offsets then referencing the g52 offsets and on to running the sub..
Also I will have a fixture that will keep the work offsets (g54-57) in the same position relative to each other so locating g54 will be the only requirement on setup.
Hope this all makes sense, thank you in advance for your help.

Hey guys! I'm new and afraid I have a problem. I just got this captain and have a cpu 1-1 alarm... The machine ran fine before it got shipped to me, it was without power for probably 6 weeks, could that have caused it? It also doesn't have the software disks in the back, can I get these from anywhere other than okuma?
Thanks in advance for the help

As the Title says, i'm desperate to find a 6FX2001-UK00 double track encoder pinout. I get a lot of datasheets, but they only tell me the voltage and so on, and I really need the pin-out, to know the pairs and the voltage pins. I'm trying to conect it to recent Servo-Drives, to control a Spindle motor.
Any help?
Regards!!

Found this on eBay. Can't believe I didn't find out about this thing years ago! Been fighting with Floppy Discs failing on my left and right. Bought this USB Emulator and now I can save programs on USB Memory Sticks. This has been a lifesaver! Figured I'd share the info for anyone else that might have an older Haas with floppy drive.

Hello I just bought a 1997 Fadal 3016HT with 32MP control. I have never ran a Fadal yet. This machine is in my barn and I am working on getting a business started. It has a 10k spindle, I have the high/low gear working, but in MDI it does not go above 5000 RPM. I set the parameter to 10K 2 speed, the Glentek Vector drive is getting 240V, and is tagged 15hp/10K. What might cause the spindle to not go up to 10K?

Hello all, new to the Haas Lathes section of the site. We just got a 2003 SL-30T and I'm familiarizing myself with the machine as I've never used a Haas Lathe. The problem I'm having now (I'm sure there will be more as I switch over from the Cincinnati) Is that I cannot move the tailstock. It tells me that the B axis is disabled no matter how I try to move it(code, jog foot pedal). I've found a couple of parameter lists online but they don't seem to match what I'm pulling up on the control. How do I enable the B axis? Thanks in advance.
