Bridgeport CNC1 Controid Control Upgrade

Howdy Y'all

I have an old Bridgeport Series 1 CNC that had a 1999 Centroid retrofit. Recently the board stopped recognizing one of the limit switches. The limit switch is good but it doesn't make it to the control to saw it is homed. Centroid wants $750 to troubleshoot and repair. Being that it is nearly 20 years old, doesn't DNC, and still runs on a floppy I am going to upgrade the entire controller.

Has anyone ever bought the M-15 CNC control trade-in to M39S upgrade kit. It is advertised at $5350 on their website for a plug and play system. Other options I have thought of are a Weihong controller with new AC motors for roughly the same cost. Money is not as important as is time since I have a bunch of projects to get finished.

As old as the machine is it's in decent shape and I have thousands of dollars of tooling that was hard to come by and it is the perfect size machine to stick in a corner for secondary operations once parts come off my large CNCs.

Thanks for any insights

TinkerCAD?

I've been trying to find an easy to use CAD which I can quickly learn, can produce technical drawings, preferably works offline, and can export both to CNC and 3D printers. I found TinkerCAD and love the interface. I know it's simple and limited, but I don't need anything fancier for the parts I make.

Is there something out there that combines TinkerCAD's interface with the other requirements I'm looking for?

Need Help! Fanuc OM Mate tool change problems

$

Dear all

I have bought the Stama MC-010 machining center(same as Fanuc Tapedrill Mate) and I have some problems with tool change. Let me summarize the symptoms:

1.When the spindle start rotating (M3 S1000 for example) the load meter is deflect up to 180%. It is little strange but work. (after start it was close to zero)
2.When I try to change a tool or M19 (M06 T1) the Z axis start to move but it stops on PS and Servo alarm.
3.When the spindle is already rotate and then command the tool change the machine execute the change.
4.In the tool change procedure the turret rotation is not stabile it was tremble. You feel like there is no enough power in main axe.
5.If the change was execute only in a neighbour position it is work good, but if you move 4-5 positions there is an alarm occur sometimes. Sometimes some tools are drop out from shaking. It is work more better if there are not too much tools in turret.
6.During the tool change the load meter was moving arround 100%
7.If I do face milling in auto mode with machine and put a big tool with big feedrate to test the load meter it is not more then 40-50%. So during the milling there is no problem with spindle.
8.I try to thread with machine and its also work.
9.When you try to move Z axis in fastest travers speed it was moving without alarm.

Other problem is that I havent the documentation for that machine(only the user manual).
Please someone to help.

Thanks

FROM module replaced- machine will not run

Dear friends,

One of our machines had a fried FROM module (A20B-2902_0341) and we found a used replacement in good working conditions but it appears that there is a program compatibility since the machine is showing this error, see picture.
Also, when I go into the PMC area in the control and try to look at the ladder, there is nothing in it. the ladder looks as if it was empty. At some point we loaded SRAM data by using a memory card and transferring all SRAM data from a similar machine we have. The problem is that this other machine is not the same thus it will not work.

I would like to ask for your advice in which way to go, I do have a complete set of the original program files that had been provided to us by the machine manufacturer, but these are only 3 files, CNC, PMC and PITCH ERROR, there is nothing else, and for what it looks like, we also need whatever info goes inside the FLASH-ROM module that we have replaced.

Thanks in advance for you comments and guidance.

New Machine Build How to Clean the Focus Lens of Fiber Laser Cutting Machine?

Perfect cutting results have close relation with right maintenance on the fiber laser cutting machine, in addition to the quality of the laser machine itself. When working on sheet metals, the laser focus lens will be smeared by metal residues, which can influence the cutting precision. So regularly cleaning the lens and mirrors is a must.

Quick and Easy
It’s recommended to inspect the optics before each use of the fiber laser cutting machine for metals. Don’t deem it a trouble or a time-wasting thing. It only takes less than 2 minutes to finish the cleaning work!
The focus lens and mirrors on laser head should be checked once a day visually, and the side mirrors should be inspected once a month at least. It will be a good idea to check them in some fixed time, for example, in each morning or evening. Then you won’t feel it a trouble and meanwhile better protect the optics of your fiber laser metal cutter.

2 Steps to Clean Lens
Although you are recommended to inspect and clean the lens regularly, do clean it whenever you see dust on it to eliminate the risk of bad cutting results and lens breaking.
Step 1: Before cleaning

  • Prepare clean cotton swabs and a bottle of industrial ethanol;
  • Using a blower or compressed air to blow off the dust and dirt on lens;
  • Clean your hand with soap or detergent and clean towel;
  • Move the working table of metal fiber laser cutting machine upward to prevent the lens from falling down on the table and breaking during removal process.

Step 2: wiping and Cleaning

  • Carefully remove the lens;
  • Wipe the lens in one direction with cotton swab dipped in ethanol;
  • Repeat for several times until there is no dirt on the lens;
  • Reinstall the lens on the laser head for next use.

Please note that lens and mirrors need special care when cleaning them to prevent breaking. Do not wipe lens back and forth to avoid scratching it. Do not directly wipe the dirt on lens with fingers or rough cloth, lest it will be scratched and must be replaced with new ones.
Then the lens is properly cleaned to ensure high quality cutting results. To clean the mirrors of fiber laser cutter for metals, you can follow the same steps easily.

ER20 collet extension for a 1/2" router?

$

I've got an old K2 KG3925 CNC machine, fitted with a Porter Cable 829 router, and 1/2" and 1/4" collets. I mostly machine wood, MDF, and the occasional bit of plastic.

I'd like the flexibility to use more shank sizes, so I was considering an extension that gives me the ability to use ER20 collets: Axcaliber Router Collet Extension (1/2" Shank) - Router Collets - Routing - Power Tool Accessories - Accessories | Axminster Tools & Machinery

Given the likely runout of the 892, and the fact I don't need tolerances to the thousandths, is the above extension likely to be acceptable, or are they going to be really bad with smaller bits?

Thanks FrankCNC I solved the problem right away.
I have a question.
1-Is it possible to make sure that comments are not generated at first along with the program?
2- How to delete the percent sign at the beginning of the program?
That he also did not appear in the program. At least in the beginning.
Viewed the entire postprocessor, but did not understand where to edit
Thank you

P.S.
It would be ideal for the program to be generated from line N 10.

New CNCRP 4896 Build log

I ordered my new 4x8 Pro kit from Ahren & Cory last Monday and was told a 3 week lead time which is ok so I can get things ready in my shop..

I was building a Joe's Hybrid 4x8 machine but after 5 years of little progress, I thought it best to buy this kit instead.. No holes to drill & tap!! Sad part is, I have all the parts and supplies needed to build the Joe's CNC on hand.. My wife is not thrilled... We chatted about it before placing the order.. I thought I had permission to pull the trigger.. Apparently we were "still discussing it".. Only had to sleep on the couch one night before she came to terms with the whole thing.. ;) She will kill me if I buy the Plug & Play controller I'm guessing.. She already knows I'm buying the spindle package.. Since I have all the parts from my failed Joe's build, I am thinking maybe I can build the controller myself from those.. I have all the usual parts: PMDX-126, PMDX-134, PMDX-107, Geco G203v's, Power supply, cabinet, etc.. When I originally bought the NEMA 34 steppers from CNCRP, I also purchased the cabinet connectors.. My smooth stepper is the USB version.. Will this be ok of I pay attention to isolation or should I upgrade to the Ethernet version?

I was building a table for my Joe's CNC, but opted for the leg kit.. Not sure what I will do with all those other parts yet.. Part of the reasoning I used for buying this new kit was that I could sell the parts since they are all brand new.. But where would one sell such things? ugh.. Maybe I will put them aside and someday finish the build.. Selling a working machine would be easier than selling parts maybe..

Only thing I didn't purchase yet for the other build was a dust collection system.. I read somewhere that if you are machining MDF it's best to have a 1 micron filter? Any suggestions of a setup for a really tight budget and an angry spouse?

Included a few pic's of my 5 year progress with the Joe's CNC build.. though I was building the CastCNC version.. The table I built was damn solid but figured "In for a penny, In for a pound" and got the leg kit... Less worries about being flat & level..
