Wanting to move 4th Axis on Commercial Machine

$

Not sure if this thread belongs here or somewhere else, but since it is a DIY Mod I figured here.

I have a Shopsabre 4 x 8 machine with 4th axis. I am growing increasingly frustrated with the limitations on the fourth axis, plus I want to do dovetails etc off the side rather than having to add dog bone cuts to the corners.

So I am considering replacing the spindle mounting plate with one that sticks far enough out one side that I could mount a router on so when I ran the spindle to the max X it would stick off the table where I would build a new table to accept the fourth axis components.

My concerns are, flex from adding 8 to 12 inches to the mounting plate. The ball screw and air assist having issues? with the extra weight of a router stuck off the side.

I am trying to decide if it would be better to make the router motor relatively easily height adjustable(beyond the Z axis travel), or to try to make the table for the 4th axis height adjustable.

Curious if anyone has added a 4th axis off the side without extending the gantry. I am just at the beginning stages of this. And even though I own a commercial machine it is from trying to start a full time business and having it fail, and not being able to sell the table for anywhere near what we bought it for. So money is a issue.

Need Help! Fadal will not power on

I have a Fadal 4020 with the 88HS which will not has been having problems for a while.
At first it would simply drop out from time to time. Then it started stopping mid program as though the code ended.
Most recently it has started doing all kinds of funny things, going left when it should of gone right, not starting when the green cnc power button is pushed or when in the ENTER NEXT COMMAND screen it will continuously bring up random numbers.
I have noticed that often the little red light on the 1030 board is not flashing or not on when these problems occur so I put the machine in diagnostic mode and ran a heap of tests with no faults. That said when running the tests I noticed that the successful test counter would count 1,2,3,A,B,C,D,E,F,10 etc.
It has gotten to the point where I often cant even get the CNC to power up at all and I need advice on what could be the cause of these problems.

Trying to figure out wiring for my DIY CNC - toroidal transformer to 2 phase 240V

$

Hello all,

This is my first post here, so please bear with me if I don't know all the lingo yet. I have been a hobbyist machinist for quite some time, and have an old geared bench mill and a lathe that was made in the early 1900's (Seneca Falls) that have both served me well, but I have wanted to build a CNC mill for quite some time now and I finally pulled the trigger.

My current hang-up is trying to find a way to build the basic power structure for my machine. I will be using a 240V 2.2KW spindle, so I am trying to stay with using a single power plug for the machine if possible. That is what has lead to my current dillema. After scouring the web for a week now trying to get a handle on how to wire this up, I have discovered that I really understand less than I need to to get this rolling.

I think the crux of my issue is trying to wire a dual primary toroidal transformer to a 2 phase (US not European) 240VAC supply. I "THINK" I have everything else mostly squared away, but I don't have confidence that I have the primary side hookup right?

I have attached my wiring schematic in PDF format for review if anyone is willing to take a look?

The transformer is a Hammond 1182T60P. The specifications can be found here:
http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/22...902.1508184824

page 3 about 1/2 way down:
dual primaries 240/120
dual secondaries 120/60 @ 25A

Thank you all for the help, and I look forward to more questions to come :)

How to add the hand wheel to a program

I want to program a move to XY, then be able to use the hand wheel to move Z up and down, and then program another XY move and repeat. I've just been using Jog and distance but that is a lot of typing.
Is there a way to program in the handwheel? Studying the manual I was going to try using G78 (manual bore) but my Centurion 6 SLS doesn't have that.

Thanks

Tim

Table CNC plasma cutting machine will produce noise, smoke, arc and metal vapor. We should control CNC plasma cutting machine pollution to our daily life.

Table CNC plasma cutting machine should be equipped with exhaust system to exhaust gas out of workplace. If the exhaust gas still pollute environment seriously. CNC table plasma cutting machine should be equipment with smoke and dust transition equipment.

Table CNC plasma cutting machine water surface cutting and underwater cutting inhibit environmental pollution effectively.

CNC table plasma cutting machine water surface cutting need water tank.CNC plasma cutting table is composed of a plurality of arranged steeoidal steel members, which are supported on the horizontal plane by these stepped steel members .When table plasma cutting machine cutting, plasma cutting machine plasma arc is surrounded by water curtains. The In order to maintain a continuous water curtain, you need a circulating pump to remove water from the tank and then into CNC plasma cutting machine torch. This water curtain greatly controls the noise, dust, arc , metal vapor and other pollutants made by CNC cutting machine. This method requires a water flow of 55 to 75 L / min.

CNC table plasma cutting machine underwater cutting is put the material under water about 75mm. Plasma cutting table on which the workpiece is placed consists of a pointed steel member. The purpose of selecting a pointed-shaped steel member is to enable the cutting table to have sufficient capacity to hold chips and slag.

Hello all. My name is Dave. I repair and build guitar amplifiers. I am currently looking at the Laguna Swift 4x4 vacuum cnc. My goals are to design and build 1x12 and 2x12 guitar speaker cabinets at first to generate revenue and as I learn, build guitars etc. Being able to build cabinets for the amps I build will be really nice.

I am a beginner to the cnc world. I have some wood working experience (I did hardwood floors and tile for 25 years).

What do you think of the Laguna machines?

What cad/cam software should I choose?

I have a few friends into cnc and will be luring them over with the machine to help.

Budget is 20k or less.

Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a brand new BB6 ER32 spindle. I thought that there was an internal stop for pseudo quick tool changes, but it looks like I was mistaken. It looks like what I really need is the old style 3/4-16 headstock with ER16 adapters or solid tool holders. If anyone with an old style spindle and a couple tool holders is looking to upgrade to ER32, I'd be thrilled to trade. If you have enough tool holders, I'd even be willing to throw in some of my Maritool ER32 collets as well.

Weird problem at MACH 3 on my DIY

$

Hello, i think the mach 3 users can help me here. I was testing for the first time my DIY alum machining center and got this weird G-CODE toolpath at MACH.

As you can see at the right corner, there is a strange loop on the part, but the toolpath was supposed to look like this:

I use the MasterCAM 2017 with a post processor called Boss_Mach3, that is created by the users for the X versions of MCAM.
To use at MCAM 2017 we need to update for 2017 using the UpdateUtility.dll provided my Mastercam itself. I don't believe this affects anything.

The code is being generated without errors.

The strange loop thing on the part( I hope you guys can see it on the image) happens on this line of code:

It's a G2, when my machine goes into that line, if you take a close look at MACH 3 SCREEN IMAGE, you will be able
that the line itself happens like 10 or 20 times.
N5090
N5090
N5090... so many times. And my tool keeps spinning.

Does anyone knows what is happening? My coordinates are absolute, my IJ is working on relative coordinates.

Deciding on a Spindle for Omio X4-800L-USB

$

Hi,

I'm about to go ahead with getting an Omio X4-800L-USB. It usually comes with an 800W, 65mm dia, 2 bearing spindle. On the website you can select a longer 4-bearing 800W spindle... but I've also got the option of getting it with a 1500W spindle, but with 2 bearings (and 80mm diameter). Any weight difference will apparently not be an issue. For each of the options I'd be considering the water-cooled option.
I don't have specs for TIR for each spindle. All spindles are ER11 collet, max 24000rpm/min. I did ask about a 2200W spindle (as the ER20 collet would be handy) but was told that wouldn't be an option due to the size of the machine.

I'm planning to use the machine for plastics, aluminium and hopefully a bit of steel. And I'm planning to spend a good amount of time trying to square everything up as much as possible... so more accuracy on the spindle would be good. (I haven't been able to find much out about the difference between 2 and 4 bearing spindles, but I'd guess TIR might be better with more bearings, and maybe also lifetime?)

So for a 3040 gantry-style router with ballscrews and linear rails, would I be better off going with a 4-bearing 800W spindle, or a 2-bearing 1500W spindle?

(I know, this issue would be easily solved by just going with the X6-2200L-USB, but unfortunately I really don't have the space for the bigger machine)

Cheers for any advice!

Problem Large pile of chips under the y-axis billows

$

I was really surprised with the amount of chips piled up under my y-axis billows. I bet in the back area some spots reached 4” high! I do use my mill daily and filled up a few garbage cans with chips in the past few months so I guess that would do it.

I am thinking of getting some sheet metal and blocking off that little area under the mill on the left and right of the mill. To ensure the coolant can drain on the right I will create another drain like the factory one on the left. I already put a shower drain in the catch basin replacing the Tormach default tiny hole. I am thinking that should work on the right installed directly in the stand with some screen and have a drain pipe connecting the right to the left?

Even if I kept things really clean with the currents gaps under the mill the flow from right to left is not good at all. So I wanted to do something before seeing all the chip build up under the billows. So now i will get this going.

Has anybody done anything like this? Suggestions?

Craig
