Grizzly G8688 Mini lathe 3 Jaw chuck problem

Hey guys,

I'm having a bit of an issue with my 3 jaw chuck for this lathe. It seems that no matter what I do, the 3 jaw chuck is not centering my work. By that I mean, no matter which way I put the work into the chuck, it has a run-out of at least .005. That's pretty significant. I can actually see the work wobbly in the jaws. To compound the issue, I cannot tighten one jaw at a time(as you know). The chuck came with two sets of jaws, one for smaller pieces of work and one for larger pieces. Right now, I've got the jaws for smaller pieces of work and the run-out is really bothering me. I stuck a bushing in the jaws(that I know to be perfectly round) to make sure that I wasn't just seeing things.

Have any of you experienced this before? If so, how did you go about fixing it? Should I contact Grizzly and be done with it?

The aftermarket 4 jaw that I purchased from LMS has been pleasant, but it's a pain to sit there and adjust each jaw for quick pieces I need to make. I'd rather just stick it in the 3 jaw (if I knew it were going to give me good results).

Anyone got any suggestions?
