set-works

I have most of the mechanical components I think I would need to put "set-works" on my portable band sawmill. set-works just raise and lower the head a set amount of distance to cut consistent thickness on the lumber. What would be the best and/or cheapest way to set up the electronic side. I know enough to where I could use a pc and mach3 but I dont want to have to type in code each time. I want the head to move say inch and a quarter with just a button or two. it would just be one axis. I have 1.5" acme screws and nuts and I would tie them together with a timing belt. The screws would probably only have to lift a couple hundred pounds at the most since there is also a garage door spring pulling some of the weight. I would like to have a way to control it without a pc if that is possible.
