Hi all, my name is Keith and just picked up a HF 7 x 12 mini Lathe to make assorted parts and things and have a couple of questions with respect to some difficulties with some aspects of the lathe. So far I have upgraded the tool post to a quick change unit, lapped all of the mating surfaces, made replacement saddle retainers and adjusted all of the gibs and main carriage to remove as much play as possible. I've been practicing making tools from 5/16th HSS blanks (I couldn't believed they actually worked and cut well, LOL), I'm somewhat comfortable with this aspect of the lathe thus far the main difficulty I'm experiencing is when I'm attempting to part a piece of work, the parting tool is 5/64" x 1/2" x 4-1/2" M2 HSS cut-off blade mounted in a quick change tool holder, the tool always seems to get pulled under the piece being parted and jams the chuck. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
My next question is what type of tools do I need to properly turn down 316 Stainless? I'm planning on making some new parts for my scooter to mount additional lighting on the front fork and higher supports for my topcase.
