Hello guys,
I am running a small production shop here and we need to machine about 2-9 inch long parts within +-0.001 inch (we have to grind slots as well). We have manual wheel and cup grinders having casting beds and dovetails. But unfortunately, no grinder holds good tolerances for more than a year (we use them a lot).
I have used LM Guides from Hiwin bofore, for a Small CNC lathe project and decided to put the LM guides on all the three axis of one grinder we have.
I am sure it will grind with good tolerances because there is no place for dust/debris in the blocks. Of course i will have to use covers on the lm guides. I know that mounting them on the machine requires precision job, but i can do that.
I just want to know if anybody has seen a grinder before with lm guides? what are the possible problems i can have to face? Will the machine deliver good grinding finish? I know it will cost me just as a new machine but lm guides have very long life.
Any suggestions?
Any experiences?
regards,
jasminder
