Fanuc 21i-T problem feeding into shaft

My first time posting here, so bear with me. I have a Romi M-27 with a Fanuc 21i-T control that I program conversationally. Last year I had a problem when I was running a simple 3 or 4 diameter step shaft program and when it was feeding in Z it decided to start feeding X into the shaft at the same feedrate at about a 45 degree angle maybe halfway though a 3 foot long cut. I talked to Romi and they walked me though basically taking the old SRAM ( I think thats how it worked) out of the controller and installing a new one, hoping that it would take whatever glitch the controller had out of the machine. We couldn't seem to make it take the new one, so I installed the old one back into the machine after saving the programs and parameters on a card. This was last fall when this happened, and since then the control worked fine. Today I was running a same type of program, a 3 step shaft turning on 30" length and it did it again, same thing where it plowed X into the shaft when feeding Z. I cant understand what would make it do this. Its like its losing where its at in the program and just decides to start doing its own thing. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help.
