cleaning equipment

I pray that none of my fellow members ever have to deal with a shop fire like I
have. With that being said I am trying to find a process other than media blasting to prepare some of the salvageable equipment for painting.
Have any of you had to do this or know of an alternate process for sheet metal and cast iron prep?
