Can I run the Huanyang VFD without a spindle attached ?

I just received a Chinese spindle (2.2kw water cooled) along with a Huanyang VFD.

Can I power up the vfd and play with the settings (and work out the Modbus commands) without having the spindle connected ? Will it hurt the vfd if it runs without a spindle attached ?
