Need Help! HELP - CNC Size for Pen Plotter using NEMA 17

I am trying to build a CNC pen plotter for my project. Due to the cost limitation, i will use NEMA 17 stepper motor. Is 1800mm x 1100mm working area reasonable with these steppers or should i go for a different size. Whether the speed and precision of this motor is good for this working area size?

Estop Triggering; why?

I've reconstructed a system using Gecko Drive G320X Servo Drivers and have got it to work but I am going crazy with seemingly random Estop interruptions in Mach 3. I have homing and limit switches with shielded cable and am NOT getting errors from them. I was able to run 1000 lines of G-code without interruption twice if I turned off the 1500w VFD and spindle (that is I did an air cut). This suggests the spindle and VFD is responsible for the problem. Conversely when I do an actual cutting job I will get an Estop error at about 400 one time and maybe 800 lines the next time.
Why is the Estop triggered? Can anyone suggest a technique for tracking down the problem. I have got an oscilloscope.
Suggestions much appreciated.

How to bypass Linear scale in Fanuc Oi-MF controller

Hi! All,
I have one drill tap center with Fanuc Oi-MF. All three axis have linear scale and one failed in Y axis.

I tried to bypass it through 1815#opt but got alarm of SV410 which I avoid by adjust the 1829 parameter.

Now repeatability is effecting by 15/20 microns.
Can you please suggest that what I missed ? or what next I need to do?
Thanks in advance

Busellato Error 2209

Hi,

We have a Busellato Jet130 woodmilling CNC.
Does anyone encounter error code 2209 "- stop.check collet and /or tool signals on electric spindle 2"

The stop icon is constantly highlighted, stopping the machine from performing

The manual says 'corrective procedure - check the status of the collet open and close signals corresponds to status required in the various situations'

Can anyone explain this a little clearer?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Need Help! Does it have C-Axis? Conquest T-42SP

Hello,

I'm looking at buying my first lathe and am looking for a T-42SP with live tooling and C-Axis.

One of the machines I'm considering is not under power. Is there a way to look at any of the hardware to identify if it has C-Axis? Could this be deciphered from the serial number?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
David

Last week we announced our Feb 2019 veteran scholarship winner Kevin Bruffet. His emotional journey is like no other, It showcases how veterans are a great solution to the manufacturing skills gap.

Kevin Bruffet is currently not able to receive his GI benefits in which is a hardship for him and his family.

Fiber Lasers...who makes the best? Mazak? Bystronic? Trumpf? Mitsubishi? Other?

I'm looking for a new 6kw fiber laser that will handle 48"x120" sheets of mild steel and aluminum. I've got quite a bit of experience with Bystronic CO2 lasers, but I've never dealt with Mazak, Trumpf, or Mitsubishi.

How do they all rank as far as machine quality and durability, maintenance, parts, service, etc, etc....

Any info would be great.

What spindle are you using

I am trying to figure out what spindles are the most popular in the DIY world.
I know a lot use a router and a lot use Chinese spindles and VFD's but I am trying to figure out the specific spindles that you are all using.
In the 2.2kw genre, where did you get yours? How much did you pay and are you happy with it and any service/support you received?
Same for the VFD.
Thanks

Need Help! Will it Fit

Okay... I did it. I purchased a Hardinge Conquest T42 with live tools, C-Axis, big bore and Tailstock. I also got about 10 live tools as well as a bunch of static tool holders.

I pick it up tomorrow and am wondering if it fit through my double doors, which are 72 with the doors removed.

Some specs I read say the machine is 70" wide while others state 76" wide. Which is it? If it is indeed 76" wide, can I remove covers or some other things that would allow it to squeeze through the doors? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks,
David

Mitsubishi Freqrol FR-SF on Single Phase?

$

Has anyone overridden the input phase detection on a Mitsubishi Freqrol FR-SF drive to run it from single phase input rather than 3 phase?

I have connected 2 of the small wires (red and blue) that go to the control side of the drive to the same phase on the input connector, and the other (white) to the other phase (looking at the schematic in the service manual to see which of the 2 it made sense to connect together)

With the main breaker off (that feeds the rectifiers / dc bus), if I power up the control side, I get only alarm 24 sometimes (main breaker trip - it's intentionally open), and sometimes alarm 24 and 26 (26 is input phase loss detected). If the main breaker is on, I get alarm 26 every time no matter what. I don't understand why sometimes with the main breaker off, alarm 26 goes away.

Is there a trick to disabling the phase detection? Can I just use an RC delay circuit to simulate 3 phase (with 2 stages of 120 degree phase delay) to the phase detection pins on the control board? I know the 3 phase for detection goes to CON 102 pins 7 8 and 9 on the SF-CA board, and it appears that it goes through a resistive divider before it goes to the ADC, but I haven't fully traced out the circuit yet. Clearly it seems to be doing something more intelligent than just checking if there's voltage between R-S S-T and R-T. I tried re-ordering the phase detection pins to the control board in every combination that made sense, and I get the phase error no matter what.

I see there's a jumper on the board to disable the main breaker open alarm to test the inverter/converter waveforms, but no jumper to disable phase detection, and no parameter (unless it's one of the parameters listed in the manual as "do not use - set to 0")

I already know about "it's not a good idea", and "derate the vfd vs the motor" etc etc (it's already a 22KW drive running an 11KW motor)
