Retro-Fit... Good idea or bad idea?

$

I am thinking about parting out all of the electronics from my Partner 1 to fund a complete retrofit. I want to buy a plug and play system. Although these are not cheap. They are supposed to be easy enough for a novice like myself to install. Supposedly all plug and play for the electronics. I would have to fabricate mounts for the new motors and such, but that’s all pretty basic stuff.

Has anyone here done a complete retrofit? If you have, after you completed it, was it worth the cost and hassle?

Main reason for wanting to do this. If something goes wrong on my almost 30-year-old machine, it’s dealing with the age of the components. Components that can be hard to find at times. The iron itself, will outlive me I’m sure. I also want to work directly from a desktop computer using CAM software like Feature CAM or similar. Newer software will make this seamless. I would also get to remove the box/controller hanging over the machine.

If anyone can recommend a good all-inclusive kit, please do!

Plug and Play CNC retrofit kit for an older CNC?

I have some good old Iron. Milltronics Partner 1 CNC. I would like to remove ALL of the old electronics, wiring, motors, etc. and install a complete newer retrofit kit. But I don't really know what to go with. Since my machine was already a CNC, I don't need to upgrade to ballscrews or anything like that.

I would love to find a set up that only really requires me to machine some brackets for the motors, mount the box, and simple jobs like this. My electronics knowledge is pretty basic. So something CLEARLY labeled and as close to plug and play as possible on the wiring side is preferable. Hopefully something to run directly from my own desktop computer and not have a large controller hanging off the machine.

Any recommendations?

FineLine Automation Customer Service

I have been dealing with Nate at FineLine for a few months now, trying to get any information as to when I can expect the parts that I have ordered. Initially it would take several voicemails and unreturned emails to get a response, but now that has all together stopped. Does anyone know of a way to get in contact with customer support to cancel my order. I am going to make the parts I need now after being in the dark for so long. This is the second machine I have pieced together with parts from Fineline and each time the customer service aspect has been a nightmare, however the parts seem to be excellent quality. I should have learned my lesson after the first time and reading countless reviews stating the same. Nate, if you see this, please just provide some insight as to what is going on. I;m fairly flexible. Some information is better than nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Replacement Drawbar for RF-25

Hello,

I have an Enco/Rutland RF-25 clone, and the upper hex part of the drawbar came loose. I ordered a "replacement" from Grizzly for their G0760 (an RF-30 clone), and it came a little too long and, as it turns out, did not run true. I may have to end up trying a replacement part for the RF-30 from a different manufacturer and then cut off the excess length of thread so it can fit in my machine, however it would be better if I could find one that is made to fit my particular machine (or at least a little closer to it).

Does anyone know where I could find a replacement drawbar for my RF-25? My searching did not produce any result. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys and gals!

Cheers,
IHateMayonnaise

VK45 II - Direct Tapping

Hi ,

Is possible to disable the direct tapping on VK45 II, with Seicos III ?

I never tap with this machine, and i use it only for some works

Sometimes, like a years ago, the machine won't start, and gives me 867 error.
I never found the cause of error. Maybe if i disable the direct tapping and the machine "don't check this axis", can i work normally.

PP Memory Swapping

Since running PPv2.x from the desktop I've noticed unusual swapping occurring even though there has been plenty of system memory available. I've been running 8GB of system memory with 2GB swap file so there should not be any swapping happening.

So I was surprised to see swapping going on with plenty of main memory available. Although I never experienced any noticeable problems with this I had purposely installed 8GB to prevent swapping especially since I run multiple applications while running PP.

For most people not using the desktop or just using the standard PP install this probably is not applicable, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

Anyway, I finally figured out the default "Locked Memory Limit" for PPv2.x is only set for 64 & by increasing this to 2048 I've eliminated my swapping concerns.
Note: You need to have enough main memory to do this.

First, check the current value in effect using the terminal command:
Quote:

$ operator@tormachpcnc:~$ ulimit -l
Then you can change this setting by creating the following file:
Quote:

$ operator@tormachpcnc:~$ sudo gedit /etc/security/limits.d/linuxcnc.conf
Note: The password should be "tormach"

Enter the following line:
Quote:

* - memlock 2048
and save the file.

After rebooting you should see the new value in effect and there should not be any swapping going on.

This is documented here: Increase the locked memory limit

Noob 4-axis questions

I've been running a 3 axis (X/Y/Z) CNC machine for a few years, so I'm reasonably comfortable with basic 3 axis CAD and CAM. For a specific application I'm considering building a 4 axis machine

With reference to the images below, I'm looking at what is essentially a CNC lathe (parts held along the X axis, spun as axis A), with a spindle that can travel up and down (axis Z) and along the length of the object to turn (axis X). I'd like to also be able to rotate the spindle around the Y axis (Axis B). The spindle centre would remain in the XZ plane - i.e. it cannot move forward/backward on the Y axis (essentially like a 5 axis machine, but where Y would always be 0).

20190103_161329.jpg 20190103_161356_resized.jpg

I'm assuming https://www.cnczone.com/forums/uncat...70276-cam.html might be relevant in terms of choosing CAM software, but as a "rotational axis noob" I'm trying to get my head around how the machine would be set up in the CAM software - as it would need to understand the centre of rotation of the spindle (axis B), the tool protrusion from that centre, and (I assume) some data on the dimensions of the spindle body and gantry, in order to avoid collisions. E.g.. "if I tip the spindle by 90 degrees so the cutter is horizontal, can I reach the bottom of a bowl without the machine colliding with the workpiece"?

Anyone care to educate me how this is done? It's all much easier in the 3 axis world!

New Machine Build Wondering out loud about quill g0704

Hi, I have a g0704 I am converting to cnc and I am gonna replace the motor and do the belt drive. I would like to keep the quill, I guess my question is, according to my research, the spindle pulley gets mounted with those two little m3 screws that hold the tach ring on to retain the function of the quill,

Has anybody ever broken those two bolts while milling?

Thanks for the input.

I'm in the middle of designing a new headstock that will fit both the Sherline & Taig mill. I already make the R8 version and use it with the Tormach Tooling System...but, i would like to now make ISO20 and/or ISO30 headstocks for use as ATC or just quick change tooling. What would you guys prefer...20 or 20 taper?

Hello all,

My dad got a cnc machine from a guy on craigslist who said he'd help him set it up. Now about a year later the thing still wont run. The power supply is able to get power and the computer has a working parallel port but when I try to run it with mach 3 I get nothing from the cnc machine.

Heres picture of all the hard ware

What would be the next best step to trouble shoot?

I'm going to try and download another program to see if I can get some results.

All laser tubes will be approved by CE and FDA.
We are a Canadian company. Each laser tube will be tested again before sending out.
GX– 1200
Diameter: 55mm
Rated Power: 60W
Application: Rubber, organic glass, leather, wood etc.
Life Span: 4,500hours
Warranty period: 4 months
1 Stability: By using special equipment and import gas, the decomposition speed of the working gas has been effectively reduced so as to greatly prolong it’s working lifespan.
2 Good mode (base film more than 95%) and small beam spot(3-5mm)
3 High-power, for example, 60w laser tube can reach the maximum power that is 70w.
4In fact, Storing the laser tube for some time and testing the laser tube can reach the enough power. It proved that the laser tube is sealed very well.
New producing laser tube is easy to have problem, since it was just tested after storing short time. If some laser tube is not sealed very well, the laser tube leaks gas gradually. The laser tube power will be decreased gradually. People could not found this problem even they test it before sending out.

OmioCNC X6-2200L USB - pricing for a used machine

I have my eyes on a 3-year old well maintained X6-2200L USB router that is for sale locally. It comes with a brand new spare spindle, some other tools and all the needed software installed on a W7 notebook. I'm totally new regarding to CNC routers but to me this machine looks like a perfect start to step into the CNC router world. But what would be a resonable price for the machine as described?
