Chatter on my end mill

$

Hi, I recently built my own cartesian style CNC router with 12mm plywood parts. Its mostly an OX style CNC with delrin wheels for linear motion on V-slots. I can mill 6061 aluminium on this but I see a lot of chatter. Here is a video where I'm milling a 5mm hole and as you can see there is a lot of vibration and an awful racket as the mill goes down the material (look at the mist nozzle. Why is this?

CAM was done in Fusion 360. This was a boring operation with a 0.1mm step pitch. Material thickness is 6.7mm. Feed was 260mm/min. The tool is a 4mm 2 flute end mill.

Could this probably be because of the delrin wheel based axes? Would replacing them with a linear shaft and blocks help? Perhaps I'm doing the wrong operation?

Need Help! Masterwood 327 Problem - Error code 0.0.0090

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with a Masterwood Project 327 (1998 - Dos control MW309 - CN10).

I had not used this machine for several years.

When put back in function of the machine, plc no longer worked, so I made a Shift + PARM and sent the PLC.

Until all is ok, and now I have a code 0.0.0090 (emergency stop), I tested the electrical wiring and everything
is OK. The air pressure is ok, ...

When I try to reset with the white button, it turns on for a few seconds and is off ...

How is it possible to control that the plc is well loaded and works well?

Thank you in advance for your answers

New Machine Build glass cutting by milling

hi folks!

i am testing a 14 mm cnc diamond finger just ordered from china (see photo).
intention is to build home made amorphic shapes cutting tool .

my router is up to 25k rpm (its rather used and might have little freedom on its spindle)

the glass is 8mm deeped in water tank (1 cm under water surface) and the finger approaches from side of horizontal sheet .which is clamped sofltly.

so far my problem is chipping.

i am not sure if its speed issue , pace issue , or maybe cooling (there is no water streaming - just underwater process )

can anyone tell where should i correct the test environment to get unchipped edges or reduce chipping sizes ?

thanks

Oded Samuel.

Need Help! Tool Changer on Automated Precision Equipment HD200 Not working!

I'm fairly new at this, and have no formal CNC training. In our shop we have an HD200 CNC router system used for sign work. The machine is set up for a 6-tool change. It uses an APE "Tool Measure" which has ceased to function. We've traced the wiring back to the Servo Drive, and get power (the power is cut when the Tool Measure (TM) device is activated). However, when the machine goes to measure a tool, it presses down on the TM and jams. As of right now, I can get the work done by manually changing tools, but this hampers efficiency. An ideas (in layman's terms) how I can check the setup in the software?

Thanks
Steve

Rigid Tapping with PathPilot on Torus Pro

So,
I have been trying to get rigid tapping to work on my PP equipped Torus Pro without much success. I was hoping to get a few tips from those who have got this process to work.
1. The CAM work in Fusion seems pretty straight forward. I watched a couple of videos and me stumbling around in Fusion CAM was essentially correct. I am concerned about the gcode the post processor is generating though. I am using the basic Pathpilot post that comes in Fusion with no changes. I did check and "Use Self Reversing Tapping Head" is set to no. Here is code it generated for tapping a simple 3 hole test part. It just sets the speed and runs the tool in the hole. It does not reverse the spindle on retract.

2. I believe the necessary changes to recognize the spindle encoder have been made in the novakon.hal, but I am not entirely sure. We've been passing around config files here to get PathPilot working, but I do see the following, which I believe means that the necessary changes are there:

net spindle-index-enable <=> pid.4.index-enable
net spindle-enable => pid.4.enable
net spindle-vel-cmd-rpm => pid.4.command
net spindle-vel-fb-rpm => pid.4.feedback
net spindle-output <= pid.4.output

3. Do any changes need to be made on the BOB for this to function? I haven't changed anything yet from the way the system was delivered, other than installing and connecting the MESA card.

As always, a nudge in the right direction would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

G76 on Fanuc 15-TF - bizarre operation

I need some help making G76 multi-repeat threading work.
The machine is a Daewo Puma 8HC-3A with Fanuc 15-TF control.
I want to thread 1/8” NPT on brass.
27 Threads Per Inch, thread lead = 0.037037”. Will simplify to .037”
From charts, thread depth = .027”
From charts, the thread length is ~3/8, so I will use .4” to be threaded onto my brass
Major dia at big end from charts is .405
The tool start will be positioned .2” in front of stock, making that a Z0.200” dimension, a Z total travel of .6”.
Extending he slope of standard pipe threads makes the X position at that lead-in to be 0.3675”
Total X diameter change over Z stroke of .600” is: .405 - .3675 = .0375”
In trying to understand the G76 operation, I want a 1st cut depth of .001”, a minimum cut depth of .001”, finish allowance .001”, and 1 finish pass.

Here is the code I have tried:

(THREADING HERE)
G20 G56 G90

G00 X1. Z5.0

Removed stock from chuck, so as to just observe process cutting air.
The above code (with S700 code) results in 10 threading passes, but they didn’t look right.
Changed to S60 so as to observe what’s going on. I monitored the X & Z positions during the threading passes, and X DID NOT CHANGE during the Z movement from +.2 to -.4
And the X values didn’t make sense to me. Below is what I observed for X positions during the 10 passes.

Pass # X @ start X @ end
1 .361 .361
2 .371 .371
3 .381 .381
4 .391 .391
5 .401 .401
6 .411 .411
7 .421 .421
8 .276 .276 <<<<<==== ??
9 .351 .351

Very bizarre results.

Sure need some help with this.

Cheers

Need Help! How hot your stepper motor

I have cnc router with G540 and cncrp gear rack, cncrp stepper motor 425 oz in (10 mm shaft). I cut hard wood and found that my stepper motor got very hot. I just want to know how hot is allowable before motor breakdown. Or it is normal that motor got very hot. On z axis, the motor is not too hot (warm). During cutting, the motor got hot, but it looks normal, no slower down speed or faster. I have tuned speed 300 ipm on xy and 200 ipm on z.

Am process specialist at TASK Micro Electronics and with a mechanical engineering background. Last year I bought a Milling machine (Tormach 440) which works great. Now I have this new project of manufacturing a sleeve using a lathe but I don’t know if the whole process could be done in one setup. If you have Tormach Lathe (sland 15L), could you try this out and let me know if it the tolerance could be achieved on this machine. IF you agree I will provide you with a PO.

Need Help! Acramatic 2100 - batteries

Hello,

Read a lot of posts regarding the battery change and I have a question ... Since this is a "normal" PC I can take it out of the machine and replace the batteries on desktop with machine turned of - I just need to keep the battery voltage present (with help of parallel battery)? There are two batteries (WS and RT)

What to do if there is a Dallas chip solution of the BIOS - what is the procedure here?

On the back side of computer there is a VGA connector - can I check the computer if I connect a separate monitor there? I have tried this while the machine (Arrow 750) was running and there was no picture, can this be becouse of different resolutions?

All the help appreciated.

Best regards, Peter

Need Help! M6 - New problem

UCCNC had been running without any problems. But now when an M6 tool change comes up in the g-code, there is a problem. Problem #1 - The spindle goes to the tool change position but the spindle will not stop turning. If I press start the spindle will continue to the touch off plate. Problem #2 - UCCNC skipped over the G-code M6 (did not run the M6) and just kept cutting with the 1/4" end mill that I was using. Ruined the sign I was making! I tried everything I could think of, to no avail. (flame2)

How can I check the M6 macro for:
exec.Stopspin();

Ballnut advice and specification

Can anyone offer advice on ballnut quality/price. Ballscrew specification is easy to find - very little information on ballnuts which may be equally critical.

I can find this info on some relatively cheap ballnuts http://www.cnc4you.co.uk/resources/Ballnut+data.PDF

That would seem to say 20mm ballnuts have much better rigidity than 16mm and 20mm dia you have to load 25kg for 1Um movement? If true I would not need to look for better quality nuts - no mention of backlash though, is it assumed to be zero?
