Anyone know what the EA and ED stand for on the original card cage schematics. Wondering if I can use these original cards and stepper motors with a modern BOB board connected to these pins. The spindle issue is resolved with a Bardac board.
Thanks

Problem [Tormach 770] Crashing when changing tools with ATC

$

Hi All,

I've been trying to track down the source of this problem for a while now with no success. Tormach claims they've never seen this issue and didn't offer much help.

Every once and a while when commanding a tool change, the spindle will jog up to the Z-reference switch instead of the tool change height, then activate the tool changing routine. This causes the tool changer to slide over when the spindle is much too high, then the power drawbar releases the tool from a few inches above the ATC fork. I've never been able to recreate the issue using the manual tool change button in PathPilot interface, it only happens when running a program. Even when it does happen during a program, I am rarely able to recreate it. You can imagine how tense tool changes are when this issue can happen randomly at any time.

Anyone have advice? Thanks!

I am using Fusion 360 and the Tormach PathPilot PP on a Tormach PCNC770 (less than one year old).

Need Help! Milltronics vmg24 error 449

I bough a 1999 VMG24 got it hooked up and get a error 449 on start up. Called Milltronics and the walked me threw some stuff, had me unhook some wires and now get a 450 code. They are lost. I have to hook up 440 to the spindle drive and 220 to the rest. So my question is how do I fix or get rid of the code? I have some pictures if that would help.

So due to the efforts of everyone who put up with me questions my new spindle is running great and configured on Mach 3.Could not be happier! Mac you were very helpful and thanks!

So now I'm hoping to see some designs of simple Dust collection for the spindle using a simple shopvac. This may not be the correct forum for this question but I'm sure someone has already figured out a simple way to attach a dust Skirt. Hope to avoid any mistakes and get it right the first time.

Can you convert a 3 axis AKZ250 to 4 axis?

I have a 3 axis AKZ250 USB board (aka Leafboy card). On the right side of the board (see the yellow circle on the attached image) there is two optos missing. Looks like soldering there the right components will make it 4 axis however that's just my guessing. Has anyone tried this? Did/will it work?

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Suat

Opinions on YOC556 Digital Stepping Driver

I have these on my X61500GT CNC Router.
Have Googled but nothing came up.
Just wondering what the general consensus on these Drivers are?
Are they generally reasonable quality or are they rather poor?
Mine appear to work ok, but I have nothing to compare them to.
I am leaning towards a Gecko G540 as a replacement, but was wondering what was the most common upgrade for these, if there was one?

I realise I am asking for opinions, but maybe I will get one particular out standing path to follow.....

I have already decided on a ESS and MB2 BOB.

I do realize I might be late to the RF 31 CNC party but I'm going to attempt it none the less.

I have tride to track down Jeff Davies for a copy of his plans but have not been successful.

If any of you might assist me it would be appreciated, I'd like to get my hand on a copy of his plans, I rather not reinvent the wheel.

Thanks
Victor

Mobile app for Machining

Hi

We just relased new mobile app for machinists called "Camcut".

Camcut mobile app includes a variety of technical calculators which help you to calculate machining values, coordinates, thermal expansion and other calculations related to metalwork. The application also includes many different standardized tables, which have been published with the permission of Finnish Standards Association (SFS). In these tables you can find for example dimensions for different threads as well as general and ISO tolerances. The application's guides include plenty of useful information about most relevant topics in machining, such as G-codes and functionalities of Mastercam. The application is specifically designed as a tool for production workers and other personnel of machining workshops, as well as an aid for metalwork teachers and students. The application is free of charge at GooglePlay or AppStore.

What you guy's think about it? Is there any development ideas for the the app?

Need Help! Tool management

Hi everyone,
I bought HAAS VF-2SS machine and I try to figure out what is the best way to manage tool holders so I need your recomendations..
I already have more tools then pockets on machine and my plan is to have 200+ toolholders with tools ready for use.
I also want to track usage for every tool, so I'm using ATM on controler for that.

Questions:
1. what is best way of marking toolholder with numbers? laser engrave, paint marker or something else?
2. is there some way to get tool informations (length, diameter, wear etc.) from Haas controller over network? How to synhronise tool library in machine controler with tool library on computer (Fusion 360)?
3. what is your best practice with tool management?

Parameter for Reference position (Nakamura TMC15 Fanuc 0-TB)

Hello...

I got an Nakamura TMC15 with a Fanuc 0-TB.

The CNC has only one Work coordinate offset that i want to use for the Material lengh.

So I want to change the reference point form X0 / Z0 to (for example) X128 / Z 400 to move the zero point in the center and plane of the chuck...

Then it should be easy to use preset tools with the wear offset (VDI 30 tool holder)...

Or has anybody a better idea?

Greetings form Germany.

Peter

Upgrading from Peak 715 to Peak 777

HI,
We have a vmx 24 with a 715 board that has failed to recognise the HDD after having all the capacitors on the mobo replaced (they had leaked everywhere although the board still worked we got them done). i have a pretty extensive background with pc's etc and the peak 715 is just that a pc. i suspected it may have dropped the cmos settings but the board should have still detected a hdd there upon boot. we bought another 715 board that had the cmos cleared and it could detect the hdd no problem but would halt on the error for the cmos being reset. there came our next problem the ps/2 connector doesnt work and we cant get past the "press f1 to continue" replacing the conector itself did nothing so im guessing its the controller for that that has gone. Anyway we now have a brand new peak 777 new sata HDD adapters etc etc and was wondering if anyone has ever done this upgrade on a hurco we have the install disks for v2-37-03e which when we spoke to hurco they said it makes it an easier upgrade as we are using this. i plan to do the upgrade in the next day or so. is it going to be as straight forward as formatting using fdisk and setting the hdd parameters etc and the same with the bios settings or am i going to run into some other problems? am i missing something or is it pretty straight forward any advice would be greatly appreciated i thought id ask now before running into the problems later.

Thanks in advance

Guys, in the fall I picked up a Mastercam x2 system 2 disc set for 25 cents Can in our local charity shop.
I'm quite happy using TCNC for my basement endeavors, but I would be interested to know if it is a complete CNC programme, I have not tried to download it?
Thanks, Terry

Micromill CNC and M03

Guys,
I would like to turn on/off my Central Machinery Micro Mill spindle using M03, M05 but the spindle speed needs to be ramped up from zero using a pot.
I am thinking of connecting the pot to a small stepper motor and controlling it with the software, unless there is a simple electronic solution?
Thanks, Terry.
PS I'm still using Turbocnc, it works for me.
