Need Help! EMCO F1 CNC mill CONVERSION - beginner!

Hello everyone ,

I am new on the forum and excited to be a new member. I'm happy that I can discuss with you guys, on the topic that interest us all. I am even more happy because I will learn a ton of new knowledge.
Sooo...
I've just buy a Emco F1 CNC mill from a local school. It's in good condition, powers on and all the axis move. All the parts are original. I'm new at these branch, so any information how to start this project will be helpful. I want to rebuild it and make a conversion. I want it to be controlled with Mach3. I decide to replace stepper motors with the servo motors, because they have feedback loop and they are more precise. Do you think this idea is OK?? Mybe anybody know what are suitable servo motors for replacements?? I know that servo motors are very expensive so is this replacement the right idea for this hobby machine?? Also do anybody know any supplier with good kits. I have a lot more questions, so any information will be helpful.

I will post pictures of my project, step by step so anybody in the future with the same problem can help with these threat.

So... any pictures (of your already finished projects), informations, documents, manuals, etc, will be veeery helpful.

Thank you to everyone who readsand/or responds.

Need Help! Spindle with brushless outrunner

Hi!

I read several topics on how to mount a spindle using brushless outrunner. I know what I need to assemble, but I'd like to know the best options about the brushless motor, ESC and power supply.

My cnc milling is small like the Othermill v2, and Othermill uses a spindle with this specs: 1100kv brushless DC and 10500 - 16400 RPM
https://othermachine.co/support/tech.../othermill-v2/

I'm going to milling 6063 aluminum and HDPE with my Spindle. Is this engine a good option for my needs? https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-...ner-motor.html

And which ESC and source is right for it?

Good tool for solid surface

Hi,

It is for my DIY CNC with a (8000 to 25000 rpm router)

I tried several type of cutters and what works the best so far is a 4mm chinese 2 flutes upcut with TiN coating. Helix looks 45deg. This cutter performed better than my carbide 1/4 2f upcut spiral or straight cutter.

Since there's no such thing as a "cutter datasheet" for chinese cutters, I set my chipload to 0.005 and the result is ok; not stellar but ok.

What would be the best tool to cut solid surface (Corian) ?

Thanks

Need Help! Anodizing

Dear All,

Hope you are all doing well.
I work as a supplier development engineer at Textile machinery company. We have only supplier that supplies us with aluminum profiles which are anodized (thickness - 100 microns).
2 weeks ago I found another supplier like a backup supplier. And we made some trails even 1st samples were extruded successfully, but anodizing thickness still like: 70-80 microns, couldn't reach 100 microns.
When I asked its secret from our current supplier, they didn't want to tell. Is there somebody who knows anodizing process well and who can tell me what I have to do in order to reach 100 microns.
I would really appreciate if you could help me!
With warm regards,

Need Help! K40 X axis problem using Corel Laser and WMF cutting mode

$

Hello everybody I'm from Argentina so I apologize for my english. I'm new to laser cutting. I've had my K40 for about 3 month and have studied and learned every thing I can about it. Every thing was fine till I had a small fire engraving a rubber stamp. The fire burnt my x axis belt so I replaced it. I use Corel Laser set to WMF mode both on engraving and cutting and was working fine, but now whenever I cut , for example, a strait horizontal line which is 250mm long on CorelDraw, after cutting, I mesure it with a ruler and it's only 246mm long. My Y axis is fine so if I cut a 250mm square (just as an example since I can only cut 300mm x 200mm) it would come out 246mm x 250mm. I tried installing everyting on a new computer and making the same cut but the results were the same.
Now what I find strange is that if I use the PLT mode on the driver the line comes out exactly as on Corel Draw 250mm long. For now, this is a solution for me but if I have to engrave and then cut, both things don't align.
So on one hand, installing all the software on a different computer should eliminate any software issue, and on the other, by using a different mode on the driver and having a good result should mean that there is no hardware problem. So here I am stuck and not knowing what to try. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate them.
Thank you...

Circle and arc problems

Hello,
I am new here and a total beginner at G-code. I am using a CNC Aerotech 3200 and it is working as expected for regular straight translations in XYZ axis. I tried programming circles and I am running into issues.

I can do circles in the XY plane without specifying an end point by using "G2 I5 F20". I can also do "G2 X0 I5 F20" or "G2 Y2 I5 F20" but weirdly, when I do "G2 X0 Y2 I5 F20" as some online tutorials suggest, there is an error at the "X0" part. The same thing happens (only one end coordinate working) when I use the R method for circles.

Other problem, circles only work in the XY plane. When I try to do it in the XZ or YZ plane by using G18 and G19 ("G18 G2 K5 F20"), only the X or Y axis oscillates. There is no movement along the Z axis. I can move it manually with buttons in the gui while the circle is happening but not in a programed, controlled way.

Any help regarding those problems is greatly appreciated,
Thanks

Need Help! Hitachi Seiki HC 500 Z Axis won't move

Working on an old HC 500 with pallet changer. Fanuc 10M control. The Z axis will not move with toggle or hand wheel. NO alarms. Had a spindle alarm and shut down and rebooted control and now this.
All other axis work and home. Spindle comes on. Acts like the machine does not see the Z axis at all. Checked all switches for tool changer and door switches.. All ok .
Swapped the X and Z drives and changed jumpers but still nothing. No alarm lights on any of the drives including the SDU. Checked parameters concerning the Z axis but nothing looks out of the ordinary. Fanuc seems to think it's a MB problem but I'm not totally convinced yet. It's like a parameter is turned off for the Z axis.

Any help would be great.

Bridgeport Interact 412 - Loading G Code Help

I recently purchased a Bridgeport Interact 412 with a Fanuac controller. It has an RS-232 port for loading a program from an external source, but I am needing help in how to load a program from an external source (PC or jump drive)

I currently have a CNC router that I have used for years, it is PC based and I use Mach 3 as a controller for it, so I am comfortable creating programs, loading and running them, but this new machining center is uncharted territory for me.

As a frame of reference, I have the manuals for the machining center, have successfully had it home all three axis, but I have not been able to determine how to load code.

Thanks

Kevin

CAD CAM for "family of parts"

To the guru's of CAD/CAM
What is the latest and greatest parametric, spreadsheet reading, table based, systems which can do a family-of-parts?
Thinking of xylophone keys,
Same except size. All same size bar stock, lengths vary, mount varies. about 8 parameters each will change.
Previously was done with Gcode macros inside machine control.
Old fashioned. this needs to get 3D.
Thanks,

K40 Laser not going to home position

$

I've set up my first K40 laser and have a problem with the home position. When the unit is turned on, it moves to the top of the Y axis and hits the end-stop switch/sensor like it should, but then it starts moving to the right along the X axis. I can never get the laser head to the home position (top-left corner) unless I move it manually. Every time I turn the machine on, it moves the laser a few inches to the right. Here is a link to a video I made that I hope shows the problem.

Thank you!

Puzzle joinery CAM software?

$

an idea popped into my head early this morning, when i was playing around with JointCAM. is there software out there to automate puzzle piece joinery? i would like to be able to make signs for people, and i think it would look neat if i could join 4 pieces of wood (different species?) with a joint similar to puzzle pieces.

Now, i can draw them fairly easily in CAD, but if i want a repeat along a long joint, it would be easier if i could plug in some values, like material thickness, number of puzzle lobes, height/width of lobes, tightness of joint, etc. then pop out some G-code, and mill out the pieces.

has anybody come across anything like that?
