Jammer's EVO 2.1 build

In what has to be ranked right up there with taking the longest amount of time to actually start the build, I am finally getting started. I first joined Joe's CNC forum back in 2012 wanting to build the Joe's Evolution 1 design. I actually ordered Joe's EVO 1 plate kit in 2016 along with hardened V-rails, aluminum and some other bits and pieces. As with happens, life got busy.

Fast forward and I now have a detached 600sq ft shop and have decided to get this thing done although I also made the decision that I am switching designs to Joe's EVO 2.1 with linear rails. Here is what I am so far:

Steel 1/8" 2"x2" for welded base (on hand)
8020 Extrusions, 2040 for Y axis, 3060 for X (on hand)
Joe's EVO 2.1 plate kit ordered (should arrive ~late Feb)
Joe's Z-S,lide (received in Dec '24)
Nema 23 570oz ordered (Z-slide)
Nema 34 740oz ordered (X & Y)
Hiwin HGW20CCZA ordered with KK dust kits

AvidCNC Pro Rack and Pinion (will order in Mar)

I will make a final decision on Electronics when I make a little more progress on the structure but right now am planning on running UCCNC on a UC300-UB1 and building my own controller box.

I will use this as my build thread as I start making some progress.

BTW, a little about myself. Retired USAF pilot now working at a Christian non-profit. I enjoy building just about anything and love tools.
