I am currently trying to configure a galil 1812 controller to run a 1kw centroid motor. I am driving this motor with an AMC b25a20ac amp. I am running the latest version of Galil's DMC terminal. We have two existing 2 axis set ups in the shop running with the same components, the only difference is that we are trying to get this single axis going with a 6 pole encoder instead of an 8. We were assured by Galil tech support that we should be able to use the 6 pole encoder. So far we are getting correct encoder counting in the terminal but cannot get the motor to advance with simple direction commands such as (PR 2000 <cr> BGX <cr>. The motor will apply some "ratcheting" type action after about an 1/8th inch of springy play not always in both directions. Our best guess at this point is that our issues lie with the commutation configuration but our memory is a little fuzzy since our last endeavor with stepper motors a few years back. Any help would be appreciated.
