one way to zig zag. Part comes out smaller on one side?

Hey guys. This isn't so much of a "problem" per say as a question to "why is this the way it is?"

My neighbor asked me to CNC out some lengths of his kids wooden train track. How can i say no?

Ive cut some of these before for him using the cheap harbor freight end mills, with great success. But feeling i wanted to get a little more aggressive, i decided to try a router bit. One of those 2 flute, straight up (not twisted like an end mill, "z" shaped from the bottom you could say)

Worked perfectly. Did 1/8" passes instead of .05", had my ipm around 40-50, cutting through oak. Awesome!

But i couldn't leave all well and alone, and decided to change the setting for the straight profile cuts from "one way" to zig zag, which I've done with my end mill bits, and well..ive attached the result.

Now why is this? the bottom side is actually a bit jagged on the side, and the top is way smaller than what it should be. Yet with one direction its fine. Whats going on here? I have both set to cut using the left side of the bit, but i assume w hen i tell it "zig zag" that nullifies that.

im guessing, bit type and direction? Just trying to understand another part of the process. Thanks guys.
