interpolating on a 3-axis lathe

We have a Hyundai 700LM here at the shop were I work at. Its the first time I use one of these. It has an x axis, z axis, and a c axis as well as live tooling (which is the new thing about it). I was wondering if, even though the machine does not have a y axis, it is still possible to interpolate holes using an end mill on a vertical tool holder. I keep trying to picture in my head how it would work if the tool were to move on x & z while the c axis moves back & forth if that would do the trick. However, before I get down to trying to figure this stuff out, I wanted to know if it could work or if I'd be wasting my time. Thanks in advance for any insight.
