Need Help! How to hold Pinion wire for turning

Hi,

Im fairly new to the forum but have a little experience with home machining. I have about a foot of 64pitch 8 tooth brass pinion wire that i need to turn down to make some tiny spur gears. Is there a correct way to hold pinion wire in a lathe without damaging the stock?
