Ok so my build has gone well and my home made machine cuts pretty well even with poorly matched motors (425 oz) and 1 power supply (38VDC 10A). They are strong, but slow. 30 ipm is about the max they will go without loosing steps.
I saw some Mean Well 48VDC 3A 150W power supplies on eBay for cheap. So I decided to get 3 for $30. One for each motor/controller. The controllers are rated to 50VDC so they should be ok. I can even "tune" the supplies up a bit to get closer to that 50VDC threshold as they say adjustable to like 52VDC. The motors could take much higher voltage and like 83VDC would be ideal for the motors.
My logic(Don't laugh) is that a higher voltage, similar amps and wattage, with a dedicated supply for each motor should result in hopefully a little more speed without loosing steps. So we will see later this afternoon as I get the 3 supplies wired in.
Thoughts? Comments? Ridicule?
