Motor Tuning 3040

I have a 3040 Chinese router that I have taken most of the bugs out of....it has not been a smooth road. I am running Mach3, have the 800kw water cooled spindle and wonder what others have found successful in tuning their motors...your steps per inch, velocity and acceleration per inch

I used the exact numbers that the manual called for and I was loosing steps. Thanks to Brett on the Mach3 site we got things running, but slow. I really don't want to play with the numbers and any info from others would be appreciated.
