Ive had a lot of requests over the years for a bigger drive for those really big mills and lathes, and made some promises with the Viper400, but IGBTs have their limit when talking big current (>40 amps).
So i've been playing with a SCR bridge running directly off the 220 AC line. The drive won't be as fast to react as a MOSFET drive, but its a brute when it comes to handling those huge motors. Running on 220volts it drives motors rated at 180 volts DC and running at 120 volts, it runs 90 volt motors.
Its an old school SCR meet modern DSP phase and current control. Its still a while away and it will cost a bit more since the SCR modules aren't cheap.
