3D relief toolmarks

I am trying to carve 3D reliefs with my new 3 axis CNC router. The machine is working fine so far but as a CNC newbie I have no idea how to deal with toolmarks? All the programs I've tried simply raster my 3D model up and down and you can clearly see the toolpaths. Are there any programs that can automaticly create toolpaths that follow the outlines in my 3D model?

If I wrote the Gcode manually I could make the ballnose tool follow all the curves and use lots of small Z steps to get a nice finish, but obviously that is impractical.

My goal is to create reliefs in Zbrush, import the STL file and get results that look "good".

How do the pros deal with this? Do you have software that creates good toolpaths or do you polish the piece afterwards somehow?
