The ongoing changes to the cnczone website seem to have settled down but with them have come a new policy I would like to address.
That is the policy of inserting advertising directly into the content of member posts.
Recently, a member named SkyFire chronicled the complete design, build and implementation of a beautiful cnc mill. You may have followed it. In my opinion, the thread ranks as one of the best ever presented here, alongside Hoss's G0704, Hoss's 3D Printers, CarveOne's Steel Channel Rebuild, SteveHuck's V8 engine, and many, many others.
The insight he provided into the professional design and development process along with the enthusiasm of his responses has won over nearly every cnczone member and garnered universal praise.
Today, he attempted to post a video of the mill engraving a faceplate for the control panel. By coincidence, his post appeared first on the page and as such was placed next to two ad insertions -- including one for a Tormach mill!. The ads truncated the video and rendered the controls used to set resolution, full screen mode, and youtube access, completely inaccessible. Attempting to read his post and watch the video was an exercise in futility and in my opinion, tacitly disrespectful of his generous contribution to cnczone.
Paul, now that the site changes are nearly complete, it's time to focus on the membership.
Without the free content of forum members like SkyFire, cnczone.com would not be anywhere near as valuable or interesting, nor would it garner the page views and advertising revenue that it does.
I understand the need for revenue and I don't begrudge you a living. But there are plenty of other ways to accommodate advertiser messages without imposing on member content.
I therefore submit, that from this day forward, it be the policy of cnczone.com to treat the content of member posts as "sacred space," devoid entirely of any and all advertising messges, and reserved exclusively for the presentation, expression, and discussion of ideas.
Respectfully, ~john
