Newbie Setting up new MicroLux 7x16 Lathe

I'm more or less new to machining and have used a friends floor size lathe and Bridgeport CNC in the past. Just bought myself the 7x16 lathe from Micro-Mark and thought I would get better answers to questions here than calling MM. I am assembling the lathe at the moment. Forgive me if I don't get the terms correct just yet.

I'm mounting the carriage and noticed that the Gib is at an angle, see pic. The instructions say not to move the adjustment screws. Should the Gib be parallel to it's mounting surface?

While I'm assembling the lathe I still need to purchase tooling. Was thinking of these to get myself going. I build RC boats so I'll be working with mostly brass, acrylic and on rare occasions stainless steel
