Newbie Help to decide what to buy..

Hi, I'm an electronics engineer, with very limited exerience of milling. :-) The problem i have is that i want to be able to accurately put holes, ( not just round ) into electronics enclosures. The enclosures are typically made of polycarbonate plastic or cast alluminum. ( its 3-4mm thick) They are typically square in shape, up to a size of around 6x6x12" in shape. For our production we have the boxes machined by the box manufacturer, but they are overseas and there is a signficiant time lag in getting samples, not a good thing for prototyping. So I'm not talking about turning out hundreds of these, but more like 1-5 of a design.

I"m wanting to move up from a drill press and a file!

I've seen some of the Sieg machines available at very reasonable(?) prices and that would seem to do the job, but i'm not really sure of that. I'd also want it to be CNC run of course.

I don't mind spending some time assembling a kit, but i dont' really want to make parts to make the machine. And i'd like to be able to get a system together for under $5000 if possible.

Size is important as well, we dont' ahve lots of space, so thats why a desktop type machine is desierble.

Could anybody offer some advice as too possible paths i coudl take?
