I'm getting requests for parts longer than my 14" of X-travel. I've been able to get them done using a reference-hole in the part, and moving the part down, etc.
But, it's slow and a pain in the butt to get everything ready for the next operation. I machine the outside perimeter on every operation. Like a long rectangle.
I would appreciate any advise on the set-ups you folks use for machining long parts on a short mill. I do 100% plate work, so nothing is thicker than .250" thick. Most are .155" thick. I use 6" x 12" vacuum fixture for everything right now. I use engravers-tape to hold the material to a spoil-board, and the vacuum to hold the spoil-board.
Thanks very much.
