Hi
I have a large plasma table which is currently running on dc servos with drives from cncdrive.com and basically im fed up with the poor performance of the drives, but thats another story.
I have a mill i dont use so much which i have dmm ac servos on so im thinking of stealing them but i have some indecision over which would be best suited.
I have 4 x220w
1 x 750w
1 x 400w
My plasma table is 4m x 2m, the gantry has rack and pinion on x and y and a screw for z, the gantry weighs approx 250kg and the y carriage is approx 50kg. the motion runs on large steel wheels and is really sweet, although heavy if i give it a push with one hand it runs the full elngh of the rails before it stops.
I have some nicely made 6:1 reductions with the spur gears already mounted which i could use.
Im not obsessed with speed, i never run rapids over 10m/min, i never cut over 5m/min but i do require 40-50milli gees of acceloration, cureently this induces a following error of over 1mm, motors are large enough, inertia is really well matched and the drives just dont put it in the right place, that is what i want to improve on.
I have run some numbers, they suggest if i was to use a 4 or 5 to one ratio before my 6 to 1 dual drive 220w on the x would work but it seems a bit small so i thought i would ask the experts.
Matt
