I'm new to the CNC world and I've decided to jump in by building a FLA-100 CNC router. I chose this machine because I will be mainly cutting wood and plastics, but I may expand to cutting small aluminum pieces.
With the aluminum frame construction, I thought the machine would be very rigid and bonus is that it looks pretty awesome too.
At this point I'm 90% complete the mechanical build. I still need to wire up the Gecko controller and build an enclosure for the electronics. Eventually I will invest in a dust/vacuum system as well. I'm waiting on delivery of a precision collet at the moment and some end mills I ordered.
I purchased the 8020 extrusions locally and did all of the drilling/tapping myself. I also made my own rails. I ordered all of the motion components from CNCRouterParts (who are great to deal with) along with the steppers/power supply/stepper controller. I would highly recommend them and their components. Everything went together without any problems or missing parts.
Enjoy the pictures thus far!
