New Here Hello from York England

I have had a CNC machine since February this year, only a Chinese one. I wanted to get a feel for the processes and the challenges of the CNC world and I have had tears before breakfast learning.
I have invested in VECTRIC V Carve and it is wonderful. I am hooked, so I will be looking at CNC machines to upgrade to.

Other than that for now thank you for allowing me access

Need Help! Harrison Alpha posprocessor

Hi,
I bought a 1998 Harrison Alpha 400 cheap. It did not come with dongel / license for alpha link software. I had a similar machine in 1999 and remember that alphalink was frustrating and using. I will use the machine privately and thought to use the Fusion360 as a cad cam solution.
Does anyone have an overview or knowledge that makes it possible to post and transfer programs to the machine.

Manual pallet jack that gently lowers fragile loads?

$

Hello all -

I have unsuccessfully searched for a manual pallet jack than can lower fragile loads gently. I owned a couple of generic ones at my last shop that were used to move durable pallets and, for the most part, they just dropped the load down. If you were very delicate with the lowering handle you may get it to lower gently - but still not safe for moving a very expensive delicate piece of machinery.

Does anyone have a suggestion on which brands, models, or even modifications of jacks that can safely raise and lower heavy and delicate machines? Perhaps even an operating trick that ensures a controlled lowering operation?

Thanks in advance.

Upgrade motors for 200lb gantry and spindle on diy build?

$

Based on the advice I got here, I bought a Gecko G540 with 4 381oz low inductance Nema 23 motors for my desktop CNC build. At the time I was intending to build a lighter machine than what I actually ended up building so I wanted to ask if you guys think I need to upgrade some or all of the motors?

The main difference is going to be the spindle. Instead of starting with a relatively light 2.2kw router spindle, I have decided to invest a little more upfront to buy a Tormach 10,000 rpm R8 milling head. The stated weight on these units is 150lb so, with the gantry and VFD etc, the motors could easily be moving 220lb or more. Is this likely to be an issue for the 381oz Nema 23's?

My machine as currently set up has 36" x 18" x 8" of travel so it's not a large machine. I'm just wondering if I need to replace the z-axis motor with someone bigger. My plan is to add an additional high speed spindle for finishing passes in the near future so it's not going to be getting any lighter either.

Is there some formulae that you guys use for working out how much motor you need for a specific machine weight / size ? Or is it all trial and error?

What programs are you using to define speeds for different materials?

Avenger 250t help needed with boot up

We purchased a 250t and had it running and could scroll through the offsets and options but had a sticky m key so we switched out the controller and keyboard now it boots untill it says " HOST CONTROL INITIALIZING " and that is as far as it goes! we even tried reinstalling the old control panel, looking into the back there are six cards but only the first 3 have the green led lights lite the motor led starts out yellow but turns red and the PCA led stays red. I pulled the cards sprayed with contact cleaner and replaced them but no change. This is our first cnc so were not sure where to begin the toggle switches are 1 right 2,3,4 left which seems strange you'd think they would all one way or another what do they control?

Partmaker Post for Doosan lathe FANUC 31i or

I recently acquired a permanent license of Partmaker 2014 that is off maintenance. I contacted Autodesk with the license and dongle number to see if I can get a Doosan post. They advised that they no longer support 2014 and want me to upgrade to 2017 and go back on maintenance. In short I am reaching out to see if anyone has a Doosan post or any Y axis lathe post with sub spindle for a FANUC 31i or even a FANUC 18i. Or anyone know of anybody that can create a post for this machine outside of Autodesk. Much appreciated.

Newbie 2000 DMU-50 Documentation

Hello all,

We recently bought our 2nd mill (yay!!) and we went from a Tormach to a DMG. (Yeah, big jump... tell me about it!) But now that be behemoth has been wired up, I really don't even know where to go next. Unlike the Tormach which has very good documentation (we were able to pretty much figure everything out just by reading PDF files and lurking the forum), I can't seem to find anything on the DMG. I did find the manual for the Heidenhain controller (Mill Plus, V500 software) but that really doesn't give me a whole lot to go with besides "learning G-Code" (e.g. nothing about setting the machine up). Is there any online documentation I can study, or do I need to pay for a class with DMG? (Do they even offer class for a 17 year old mill?)

For example, as dumb as it sounds, I don't even know what is the proper procedure to load tools into the tool magazine... the "release tool" button on the control isn't doing anything, so I can't manually load a tool into the spindle. I've read on some other thread you are supposed to open the magazine door, load a tool, go to the control and "confirm" what tool has been loaded to which position, however I haven't found which screen controls tool loading yet. Or, even something as basic as does it need to be trammed/squared after we level it? I am sure with time I can figure it out, but I don't want to make some newbie mistake and break something... if any experts here can at least point me to the right direction, I will gladly read up any documentations I can find. (aka I am not looking for hand-holding, just some pointers where to start.)

Thanks!!

Problem Cutting unwanted areas not shown in code or simulation

I'm having issues where bobcad will go severely off path and gouge the part breaking the tool and ruining the part. However there is no evidence of this in the simulation or code. I've tried various posts aswell.

I've had the same issue with v28 v29 v6. It is always during an adaptive rough operation. I run other programs from fusion 360, pro-e, gibbs and others all without issue.

Thanks for reading

I would like to process my BF25 top milling machine into CNC. I went to the STEPPERONLINE store where very good prices are available, but also from Germany. I want to get the Leadshine DM556 Stepper Drive controllers 20-50 VDC Input 0.5-5.6A Output Current. The website says they are a distributor for leadshin, but they have considerably lower prices than in other stores. Are you interested in your experience with this store?
